Ebay issue with buyer

Crap...they said they weighed it on 3 scales and it says 7lb 12oz. ARGGGGGG. Anyway do I still end up paying paypal and ebay if I do the refund? Also Don't they only get the purchase price and not shipping refunded? I said no retuns in my auction. I'MMMMMMM PISSED. I was going to buy a Streamer jazzman last night with the money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You get a refund of the listing, final value fees and paypal fees if you are both in agreement that the sale is null and void. Your buyer has to pay to ship the bass back to you before they get a full refund from PayPal, therefore when they get a full refund you take the hit on the initial shipping costs! In effect both buyer and seller are down the cost of the shipping. ;0(

Your scales say the bass weighs about 6lbs, but the buyer says it weighs 7lb 12oz. That's a huge difference. Almost like you were measuring two different things. Could you ask the buyer to take a photo of the bass on the scales, so you can actually see what he/she is weighing? It doesn't seem likely, but perhaps they are weighing the bass in its case!

I'd also check your own scales - get something that you know weighs 7lbs and put it on the scales and see what it says.

Of course, this helps work out why the weights are different, but that's not really the problem here. The problem is how to avoid your ebay feedback taking a dive, without hurting your wallet too badly. And for that, well, either you return the bass, or you somehow sweet-talk the buyer round and persuade them that they should keep the bass. To achieve that you probably want to start by making it very clear that you are prepared to take the bass back, but you want to check that they really want to do that since both of you will take a hit on the shipping costs.

Good points but bear in mind it would be easy to 'fix' it so that a bass registered whatever you want it to register on a set of scales. I do think its a good idea to keep dialogue open and see if the buyer will consider keeping it if you come to an agreement on a small token refund of say half of the original shipping costs. As suggested it might be worth (politely) pointing out that they stand to lose the cost of the shipping fees if it is returned!

WEll, just to keep everyone in the loop. I contacted a few people selling them on forums and such and theirs weigh from 6.75# to 7.4#. I agreed to have them ship it back and they are eating the shipping both ways barring ebay or paypal methods for canceling a auction and refunding money. They were cool with paying shipping since they were being a nitpicker on the weight and the bass was in excelent shape otherwise.

I just pray it comes back in same shape and all same parts.

If 'you' are refunding as opposed to paypal doing it automatically then you can specify the amount refunded (i.e. retain the cost of shipping and refund the rest). However if paypal do it automatically then it will be the full amount unless paypal have come to a prior agreement. You don't want/need to cancel anything until the bass is returned and inspected, that is standard practice. ;0)

I'm not sure what to do as for the cancel the transaction or refund. If I refund, then I pick the amount I'm assuming BUT PAY EBAY and PAYPAL Fees. If I cancel, does ebay or paypal automatically refund the whole amount including shipping? I can't find and info of this stuff.

Ah, I hear what you are saying; that is a bit trickier isn't it. I'd contact eBay and paypal support and tell them what is happening and that it is amicable but how do you proceed so that you retain the shipping cost and I'd do it before the buyer has the chance to get the bass back to you and he thus gets the opportunity to force the issue with paypal.
