Duct-taping Natural or Highpolish base coat?

I haven't posted here in a while, and I was thinking of duct-taping my bass.

Now, for later on when I finally realise that this is retarded, will it be easier to take the duct tape off when there's the High polish finish or when it's sanded to Natural? I'm assuming High Polish, but second opinions are golden.
 
I would think the polish would be more forgiving when removing the duct tape since you could just use some sticky goo remover for the remnants without damaging the wood. Is that hideous blue sparkle finally getting to you?!? :D
 
High polish will be the easiest to get off the remnants of duct tape.. although im sure you would be able to get it off the natural stain... just with a bit more effort.. What is the purpose of the duct tape exactly lol?
 
I use ductape to hold my straps on every show... it has actually pulled the paint off in certain areas!
 
Why not use locking strap nuts? Stops you from having to use duct tape and maybe taking paint/stain off the body.. i use them on two of mine.. and they are great..

Haha, I use both actually! I can't trust the locking strap nuts by themselves, they've failed me too often... once the screw from the bridge side strap nut actually broke in half, leaving the end of the screw still in the bass! That was a serious mission to get out!
 
Ask [wolfman] for tips. He taped a natural finish streamer ... and refinished it after removal. /Pat
 
Wow didnt think they would actually snap... and yea i can imagine thos screws being a real pain to get out... did you have to drill them out? or just reverse tap?

Yeah, I total covered my Streamer LX in Duct Tape. it was quite easy to remove it: i painted the bass afterwards so used some wax remover to remove the wax from the body, to be honest there wasnt a lot of glue left on from the duct tape. probably didnt like sticking to the wax.
 
Why not use red, black & white electirc tapes to give your bass a EVH look?
 
18 years of using strap locks and I have never had one fail. I used to use Dunlop ones but have been using Schallers for the last 6 years.

Duct tape looks awful. not the kind of look that Hans had when he designed these lovely basses.

Warwick - the sound of silver duct tape on high quality wood.

Why not do what Billy Sheehan does and use a big screw bolt with an ever huger washer and screw your strap onto your bass?
