Dots on Thumbs?! Old standard feature or CS addition?

Hey guys. I have an '88 THumb NT4 with small dots on the fingerboard face. I have about 200 pics of warwicks on my comp and just noticed that out of all of them i was only able to find 4 Thumbs with the small fboard dots. I saw numerous basses with the other availiable inlays but only four Thumb Basses with dots. the THumbs i found were from '88 (mine)

another from '88 (another TBer's i think, i love the thumb rest on this one)

and these two which i really don't know anything about. (I want to say the NT4 with the one-piece bridge is an '89 possibly.)

I am just trying to figure out if the dots were an older standard feature that was on older Wick's or if this was a custom shop addition. Any info or tips would be great. thanks

Yes,

the first generation of Thumbs (including the JD) had the dot inlay. I personally prefer the no inlay policy of the current Thumbs, but when I see one with dot inlays, I get excited, because that is a feature of the vintage Thumbs. 8)

In 1990 dot inlays became an extra on Thumbs and Streamer Stage 1's.
They remained a standard (no extra charge) on Dolphins and Stage 2's

do you have more pictures of the thumb featuring the thumb rest ?

(well, a guitar stand with a thumb bass on it could be called a "thumb rest", too...)

Very clever :lol: I will have to look and see if i have any more pics of that bass. Mine was the '88 at the top and i have been thinking about trying to do something like that on mine.

Awesome. I was hoping someone would claim that beautiful insturment. How do you feel about the one piece bridge compared to the two piece bridge?
