Does Warwick Surface Finisher go off??

I haven't used my Warwick surface finisher for about 6 years since I got my thumb bass oiled with Teac oil.

My new Streamer however hasn't been oiled (yet!) so I decided to give it a quick polish with the old tin (It must be at least 12 years old as it came with the bass).

There's lots of black residue on the inside of the top and the finisher is darker than I remember. It is also too sticky to really use effectively on the bass.

Is this normal, or should I get a new tin?
 
You might want to pick up a new one mate. I don't think it's supposed to be black... ~M~
 
Maybe that's why it stinks as well! Which is why I ended up getting the thumb oiled.

I've ordered a new tin :)
 
Sure you didn't grab the shoe polish by accident? That's what it sounds like... :shock: ~M~
 
I got a tin with my second hand 91 thumb NT and it looks like it may well be 15 years old too, still smells awesome and rubs in fine tho :D
 
Hey, bassoctopus, how do you oil the bass with Teac oil?
 
Seems my other surface finisher was definitely off.

The new stuff smells the same but far less strong. It's also much easier to polish on and off. I might even start polishing the Streamer on a weekly basis!
