Differences in Sound using different woods

Again, another question for my plan of buliding a Corvette $$

I like basses having a deep, growly sound, maybe like the bass here:

(Just listen to Lord Of Illusions).

After having played the $$ in the Musicstore, i really liked it's sound - so, to get a nice growl, with not too many briliances - what would would be the best choice of wood:

A standard Swamp Ash Body, a Swamp Ash Body with a top, e.g. bubinga, or tigerwood (i haven't got loads of money, so i won't take the most expensive tops ) or the Bubinga $$ NT?

How would the sound change using for example a Bubinga top compared to an Ash body?

I think first of all you should know is you want a BO or NT bass...

The sound described by you is pretty much how I see a standard corvette $$. And you said you liked that one, so the safest buy fo you is to buy one that you know...

Sure, the $$NT is a very good bass, but it is different.

Damn you Warwick! Considering the new price list, a Top of Bubinga or something would be even cheaper than a coloured oil finish. And after listening to that video a couple of times

I'm absolutely not sure anymore :-/ This Zebrano has also an amzing sound! Now, for a little extra something, I think abouta Zebrano with a bubinga top (pommelé or swirly, don't know yet...but a pommelé top seemed to be way out of reach for me last year...now it's even cheaper than swirly bubinga :shock: )

So here some of the combinations I'd take into consideration now:
Body from std Swamp Ash, Zebrano, Afzelia, or Mahogany (or maybe sth way different, such as Yellow or Purple Heart, unluckily, I have no idea how they sound like).

Maybe a 3/8" Top of Bubinga...hmm...

Edit: listened again to it...the Zebrano could be a bit more bassy, so with a bit more lowend, imo. Damn, it's so hard to articulate, what I want :roll:
