I noticed the other day that there was a 7 string Streamer and thought to myself, can this be done with a Thumb?
 
Friend, we 're probably talking *massive* neck dive here. The Thumb (especially NT) has a tiny body. It's a body attached to a neck, not vice versa. The body wood is heavy which helps, but so is the neck wood + steel reinforcement. Perhaps with a lightweight neck wood and a slim neck profile it would not be that bad. Of course you can use Thumbs in all kinds of mysterious ways, slap and tap in an horizontal position without ever going near the first 5 frets. Or you may be a basketball player that can wear the bass just about any way you want.

You could land a fighter jet on that thing. It would be a little bumpy though.

Yup, they can do it.

It would be a broadneck 6-string thumb NT, but with 7 strings at narrow spacing.
 
I'm more of a tapper than a slapper, so narrow spacing is just fine with me. Now I've only got two questions: How much will it cost me? and How many vital organs will I have to sell to be able to afford it?

about 1000 euros over the cost of a 6-string thumb, if I'm not mistaken...
 
I already own 2 two guitars, one of which I'll be selling shortly to try and get my hands on a Conklin Groove Tools 7 string until I can afford the CS Thumb NT 7.
 
I had a Groove Tools 7 string for about 2 years. I have to say my 6 string Thumb NT feels eight million times easier to play and more comfortable by a long stretch. The Groove Tools wasn't bad, and has a much mellower sound than the hotter, clearer Thumb, but I don't regret selling it.

I wonder just how much thicker a 7 string Thumb neck would have to be? My 6 string is Soooooo comfortable. My bandmates don't believe me, but it is as comfortable as my 4 string. I am very curious how much one more string would swell the neck. That neck shown above is beyond tree-trunk wide. Wow!!!

Yeah,I'd play touch style too.I'd touch it,come to my senses,then put it down.

especially with Jean Baudin as my new bass teacher :d

I know mate,I'm just jokin'.
I believe as an instrument,rules dont apply.However ya get them strings moving,is up to the player,& as long as the listener enjoys it,that's all that matters.The more unusual & innovative the technique,the better.If people like Larry Graham & Louis Johnson,hadnt started thumping their thumbs down onto the frets,instead of the tried & true method of thumb playing,where would we be now?
