Im currently at mine... a stripclub... You may asl why Im posting this at a stripclub... This place is disgusting! I dont see how women can do this for a living... So Im hanging out in the corner by myself :P

Already had a few strippers come up to me... And had t fend them off with the wedding ring.. Man and were they mean and rude about it..

Well anyways Im up in a few...

So whats your craziest show?

Our town annually arranges a "Nordic Walking Cup".
About 100 old ladies - and a few maybe not so straight guys - meet saturdays at 9am and "walk" about 5km.

The Grandpa of one of our friends was promoter for this event. So when the school-band that was supposed to do some background music during the event had to cancel, we were called if we couldn't stand in.
I was the whole week in bed with flu - when suddenly the phone rang on friday - at 8pm! (you remember - saturday 9am?)
My guitarplayer asked if I was in. It was kind a dumb situation. Our band didn't exist to long before -and we had to play about... 3 hours(?) with only the 5 songs we had.
In the end we met at 7am to practice a little - and 9am till 11:30 we were on the stage playing super-extended solo versions of our songs. We made two sets that were exactly the same - but nobody even recognized and in the end the audience was quite content. We got a lot of requests if we had shirts or cds to sell - and the best thing:
The pressman/photographer kind a liked us and made a whole bunch of pictures from us playing. We thought of him just making fun of us - but the next day, when there was a report about the "event" there was a picture of our band, about 1/3 of the whole newspaper page with our name and a quite short review which ended pretty good.

Alright... I spoke too soon... After I posted this thread and we went up on stage, All hell broke loose.

The dj was a total ass and kept advertising the women between songs... We were in the middle of a song when he got on mic and started with his crap and cut us out. Soon a fight broke out and we all got sprayed with a fire extinguisher.. It got ALL OVER! our amps, cabs, the guitarists pedal board, etc... Then the dj began to say the band has no talent, etc. etc. etc.

Basicly tomorrow I will be calling them and threatning them with a lawsuit, for getting my gear all dirty... I have to take everything apart tomorrow and clean it up... Not to mention my asthma is really acting up right now... I refuse to play this club again... And heres a nice little picture I took after we left :)

Chris, Tom (Grenadiers guitarists) and Billy (Open Defiance - Bassist)

It was a few years ago, I was in an acid jazz band back then. We had a gig in a club, a really underground one. And half of the band smoked really strong cigarettes (I will not give you names here..)
The PA had huuuge subwoofers, too large for the rest of the cabinets. I really liked it, and I've changed all the bass line, I played dub- reggae all night long. The sax player and trumpet player changed too. At one moment they started to SING their part, because they couldn't play their instruments while holding the cigarettes. I am sorry nobody recorded that gig, we had a lot of fun :-)
The next day was my last concert with that band, and I joined the band Proconsul.

Ooooo... where to start with the craziest gig...

A few come to mind!

When I played sax, I forgot to take the strap once (can't believe I did that... I'm "Mr Contingency") so I had to gaffa tape the sax to my body, that was fun, especially going to the toilet!

Then there was the one where I walked into a scanner light on the stage, and spent the gig like Wayne Coyne out of Flaming Lips, with blood running down my face!

A number of fights breaking out, while "the band played on"... not fun!

Casey... sharing the stage with DJs! They're not all bad, but a lot of them are! They always get there first, so the band arrives and finds the DJ gear just sitting right in the middle of the stage... so where the F*** are the band supposed to go... so we have to "politely" move his stuff out of the way... so the DJ hates us for the rest of the night. And quite a few times, you finish your set, get rapturous applause, calls for an encore... then the DJ cuts straight in with his bloody racket... show's over folks! Just a few good uns... like the one who introduced us... "And now for some LIVE music, which is the way it should be!" We bought him a pint! What a hero!

Also... don't know if it's me... but in bands I've been in, seems to induce men to rip their clothes off and prance about naked... not women... men! Think that might be something to do with the much publicised "binge drinking" culture in the UK!

I played in a cover band in college, and we were playing at my own fraternity for one of our parties. Half way through the little gig, we all took a 10 minute breather and grabbed something to drink. I asked my gf to hold my bass so that no one would touch it or try to play it and she agreed. While I was up at the bar, some dude decked her and tried to grab my Warwick Thumb 4 string! He tried to run through the crowd and was doing pretty well considering the crowd was mostly girls. Well, he tried to run past me, and and knocking him out when I stuck my arm straiaght out and he connected right at his neck, sending him to the ground. He hit the ground and after about 5 seconds, came to and tried to stand up. My gf had my bass in her hands again and I said to the dude "sorry bro, that was a mistake, let me help you up" and as I helped him up, I punched him right across the jaw, putting him down for good.

His friends tried to start some static, but, ummmmm, my fraternity had 30 people and most of them were standing there waiting. We had a cop outside doing crowd control for us, and we had him escort the young man to the police station for attempted robbery.

Im not violent by any means, but when that dude tried to run past me and O clotheslined him, I felt soooo damned good. I think it was the expression on everyones face as he went up into the air and was knocked out before he hit the ground. You dont mess with me OR my guitars

I don't condone violence either.... but I like a story with a moral

The moral is (to misquote the old joke): you don't mess with a guy's Thumb!

+1 I was insanely mad lastnight after the stuff from the fire extinguisher got ALL over my bass, cabs and amp... I'm taking them apart today to make sure everything is working properly... If not, me and the dj will be meeting up later tonight :)

But either way, spraying a fire extinguisher in a closed off space such as that without a fire going on is a HUGE no no... to the point that the fire department will slap you with a huge fine... Looks like I'll be calling around today and racking up a huge bill for the club.

Casey - that sounds crap but at least it's a rock and roll story to tell!

My crazy gigs...

1) Playing at a dominos award ceremony (full of OAPs)
2) Being mis-booked for a New Years Eve gig when they were expecting waltzes and foxtrots. We did 3 x 15 minute versions of 'Wonderful Tonight' in different styles!! The singer even changed the lyrics so that it was about tonight, tomorrow morning and the next night. LOL
3) A wedding we played at - within minutes of us arriving to set up the groom slid at speed across the dance floor on his knees with his cock out! The end of the night ended up in a big fight (as usual for chavvy weddings) and the best man would only pay us half the money.

In a final heat final of a band comp & drunken dickhead stripped off naked, yeah Steve,it happens here too mate  & the barman belted him with a short aluminium baseball bat.Half the audience ran for cover, the other half watched the naked bloke getting pummelled by the barman & we were half way through a playing The Damned's,"smash it up".
If crap like this puts you off maybe playing live isnt your calling.Sounds harsh but what can you expect when you're livelyhood involves entertaining people.

damn casey! that must have sucked ass. but i guess you'll like some intimate time with your thumb again. i smell linseed oil already .. ;)

The sweetest GIG was aboard a 266 ft. Cooling/Transportship once part of a deep-sea fishing fleet, now used as a mobile cultural platform. The whole atmosphere was indescribable: poets, painters, musicians, punkers, squatters, plain old me and everybody pleasantly heaving a great time with one and other, GREAT.

One of the Weirdest was a gig when we started the day loading the van, everybody got in. I finished my smoke and the the drummer closed his door, with my right-hand stuck between it and the doorpost. Lets say it wasn’t the best feeling ever, I played the gig(the show must go on) with one finger and every picture of me had me with the same look on my face: ouch!
Number two in that row, was a gig I've played with my pink and ringfinger(on my left hand) taped together and with a split, due to a Icehockey injury. After an hour or so it was getting pretty painful. two or three days later the pain was still there and I went to the hospital; Broken!

As you might have noticed, I'm that guy with the good luck/fortune in the world. But hey, I can play my bass and it's a SSII so what the h@#L ;)

hmm.. Crazy gigs? I can only remember that one night were my old band and me played two shows, both at two different locations far off each other. The first one was nice, cool stage, great audience. But yeah i like fell off stage because I would like jump around like a dork n stuff. And yeah on the Second gig they didnt even bother to actually amplify the bass...like i had an amplifier n stuff but it didn't go through the PA, and as the hall was pretty big you just wouldnt hear me. This time i fell off stage again, but really hard on the back man :? But overall a great night.

Okay, that might not fit a "Crazy" show, but still :D

I played a gig at a Brazilian cafe on Bondi Beach in Sydney... it was going great, the badn was smokin'.

We were set up in the corner of the dance floor as there was no stage. During the break, a couple (big) Brazilian guys lost their heads and decided it was time to fight with each other. F**king morons. They ended up wiping out all of our equipment (mostly percussion gear)... Luckily my rig was toward the back (including my white streamer) so no damage was done.

:P I have to finish cleaning my cabs and then start in with the bass... I'm still worn out :P

I've been spending some time spreading the word about the club and so far have managed to talk 3 or 4 other bands into canceling theyre shows there... I'm expecting the majority of the bands to cancel. From what I hear the club is already going under and theyre trying to revive the place by bringing bands in... But with the bouncers, managers and dj's being such asses... They wont be in buisness much longer... Not if I have anything to do with it ;)

Everyone was extremly rude... The bouncers/management walked up to me and told me "turn that sh*t off!" when I was doing a sound check... then the whole dj thing... then we got kicked out of the place and had to move all of our gear (which is ALOT) outside at 2 or so in the morning and it was around 20f degrees out!... crazy night...

And on the drive home I hit a little black ice... but luckily made it home safe and in 1 peice.

One of our friends stayed behind and beat the crap out of that dj though... not before the dj bit his finger and scratched his neck up though... Then a bouncer ran out and elbowed the friend in the face...

All in all in was an insane night... And I wont go near that place again... Unless I plan on peeing on theyre door or something.

Unfortunately most bars seem to have the idea that once they book you, they own you. Forget the pittance they pay prolly won't cover the wear and tear on your strings. Which is why I wouldn't gig again unless my life depended on it. I've gone to a sound company at 9 AM, helped load a PA, driven with the sound guy to the venue an hour and a half away (1 guy can't set up a PA) unloaded and then set up the PA, lights etc over the afternoon, sound checked in the evening, gigged through the night, then stripped down and loaded the PA, drove back, unloaded the system into the building, and got home at about 6 am the following day. 21 hours, and prolly made about 20 bucks after paying the agent, sound company etc.

One word:

ROCK

+1, Be more selective with where you agree to play. If the strippers alone offended you before you got started, it probably wasn't the best place to start with...
