crackling tweeter?

hey guys,

im really worried about my cab. Basically, i usually play with the tweeter completely off, but someone said it will burn up the crossover, so lately i've had the tweeter on a tiny amount.
anyways, in the past few days ive noticed that the tweeter (i think) is making a weird crackly sound. At least i think its the tweeter, maybe it could be the woofer though i dont think so.
any ideas what this could mean? is my tweeter busted?

First of all, playing with the tweeter off is safe.
The cracling noise can be a sign of grounding prolems as well. It happened to me too, and it was gone wwhen I pressed the "ground lift" button.
