Corvette Proline vs Corvette $$

Hey peeps,

Just a quick question about how the Corvette $$ stands up to my current bass. At the moment I've got a '96 passive Corvette Proline (prior to the active proline range) and I've got an opportunity to get my grubby little hands on a Corvette $$.

I was just wondering how the config of the $$ makes it different to the standard Corvette and any pros/cons when squared up to mine. I guess basically I have to justify purchasing the same bass with a different pick-up config to both myself and my Wife. That and she'll prob make me shift the only Warwick currently in my possesion to limit the cost of picking the $$.

While I'm bias in opinion, there's little or nothing a passive Proline can do that a $$ can't. And with 3-way coil switching and an active 2-band preamp, your tonal options grow by leaps and bounds. The only factor that comes to mind is if you're right-hand technique is comfortable with those big 'ol humbuckers. Best of luck.

Man I have both basses (a 05 $$ and a 92 Proline) and all I can say is: if you can keep'em both..
The $$ has a wider tone range but the proline has that feel and that simplicity.. I like slapping the proline a lot.. it's so easy and so pure!! On another hand the $$ has that fat tone and growls like hell!! Like Evolvebass said there's little or nothing a passive Proline can do that a $$ can't but the old prolines are so much lighter and easy to play than the new $$..
But this is only my opinion.. If you can keep'em both, if you can't try them and pick the one you like more.

I'd vote for keeping them both... if you can afford it. The $$ is a great bass though!

That I don't know but I know that my $$ is so much heavier than my Proline!!

As for the dillema, I'm thinking I'll just stick to the tried and trusted Corvette for now. $$ was a little too pricey and would have meant I'd have to sell the Corvette to acquire it.

Through tossing up weather to part with it I realised I've actually become quite attached to the little bugger and would have missed it immensely.

Anyway, thanks again! Nice to finally chance upon a forum chock-full of Warwick lovers!
