corvette proline 6

hello ppl i'm new in the warwick family... to get started i aquired a 2nd hand corvette proline 6 (after a 10/12 years playng fenders and yamahas)... i'd like to know what are the strong and weak points of the bass (the ones that might bring me trouble!)... i've seen a few ppl changed the original mec pups and pre.... good reasons to do so?

I've never actually tried a Proline, but I'm completely happy with MEC pickups and pre-amps.

Some people seem to change stuff around, but I think you have to identify what you don't like about the sound before you mess about. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

there are not really any bad points to the bass and as for the electronics most people are really happy with the MEC and those that do swap only do so to get a slightly different sound...not because they arnt happy with the MECs

My only problem with my Proline is that its red and that I had to file the bridge to fit a B string.

Best bass I have ever played.

that goes for all warwicks.. couldnt bear to do it to mine. first string change i made was to DR longnecks. played safe but hey, i think it sounds a hell lot better than black labels.

Word... I really dislike Warwick strings.
If your careful you can file it and leave no mark... mine was pretty gentle, but I left a little scrape.

By the way, nice signature. That couldnt be more true.

I actually like the blacklabel strings... They sound awesome for slapbass, But I have went back to my dr fatbeams theyre quite a bit more comfortable and have that pop to them. As for the pickups... I was considering changing to emg's at first... But after playing with the eq's a bit and stuff, I found my dream tone with the mecs

so +1 on the mecs

the last strings i used (on a fender) were elixir.... very bright... they boost the mid-hi... i've learned to like them... this bass came with d'adario... i've never used them before...

warwick strings.... only tested red labels... very nice for the price... the cheapest i've meet... can't expect miracles...

My MECs are single coil passive. i've got a good tone with both pups on and sometimes if i pan it a little to the bridge. but I'm thinking of getting an active stacked coil. would be really great if i could get a stronger tone out of the vette.
