Here's a clip of one of the bands I play with doing "Panama" by Van Halen. It's not perfect, nor an example of exemplary bass playing (I was seriously distracted by the girl dancing in front of me, but that's another story)... The tone of the bass really comes through nicely though. See if you can guess what kind of rig I'm using! You can hear the bass best during the guitar solo and bridge.

The mix is heavy on the lows since it was recorded live and what you hear is basically what went out the mains. We recorded with a PreSonus 16ch digital console going to a laptop and it came out pretty good.

So without further adieu, here are 4 certifiably crazy, possibly half drunk at the time Alabama boys jammin' on some VH. :) Enjoy.

love the way the singer does the second verse and the bridge...made me laugh!
 
Sounded good man, sorry wasn't even trying to guess the rig (i'm s'pose to be looking for jobs online at the moment lol, just using for some background music) but it sounded pretty damn cool. Lyrics were a little weird, gotta admit i don't know the original though so i'll assume you guys were just following someone else's written word!
 
Lol, sorry about that Pedro - I should have written about it in the description. :) The singer was trying to be funny, so he decided to sing part of the song like the Lucky Charms Leprechaun (a goofy cartoon character in an American breakfast cereal ad).

Then he made up all that stuff in the middle. I guess it's funny when you know the original song, but maybe not so much if you don't. :)

Thanks for the nice comments folks. Any guesses on the bass rig the 'vette was runnin' through?
 
Lucky Charms are awesome! Think they got banned in the UK cause they had too much sugar in them or something, i use to have them as a kid and me and my sister would open the box, eat all the marshmellow candy things and then put it back in the cupboard lol
 
As a former Van Halen addict I really enjoyed listening to your version of Panama....8:

If I had to make a guess about the amp you used, I'd say Ampeg !??? :confused: ... Your geetard player seems to be highly influenced by mister Eddie Van Halen, so I thought maybe he pushed you to use Michael Anthony's equipment ....(happened to me too) ;)

You're right about the guitar player's VH influence - he's a huge fan. He even saw Eddie play in Atlanta and bought one of his guitars. It's pretty cool, really. :)

As for gear, check this out: What you hear is acoustic drums, and two Line6 PODs going direct! The guitar is a Peavey Wolfgang on a POD Live XT, and I used my Bass POD Live XT with the Warwick bass. I was pretty happy with the outcome, it has that nice big "greasy" sound I like. It's amazing what that thing can do when you read the manual and program it correctly (the patches out of the box pretty much suck). I haven't really tried any other modelers, but I imagine the capabilities would be similar from one brand to another.

Man I enjoyed that immensely. Great and funny singer, solid bass playing, nice guitar solo. Serious fun. ...and I love mixes that are heavy on the low side. ;)

 
Hey thanks guys, glad you're enjoying the clip. Like I said, it's not perfect, but it definitely was fun!

Flipper, you asked what settings were used.. Not sure what the g*tar player as his set like, but mine is set to model an '80s Gallien Krueger rig with an Eden cabinet. Basically, I just fiddled with it til I had the sound I wanted, going through model after model til it sounded good.

I do have the computer software that interfaces to it, which makes getting tone a lot easier. You can sit in a chair in front of your PC, rather than bent over the floorboard trying to find your way through menus. It's much, much better on the computer.

Anyway, thanks again folks, I might post some more clips some time.. The band you heard is my "fun" band - and they're definitely that! Certifiable all 4 of us, I'd say! :)
