Corvette $$ Balance

Calling out to Corvette $$ users (4 and 5 string), I 'd like your comments
on the instrument's balance with a strap. I recently tried out both a Corvette
STD 5 Bubinga and a Corvette STD 5 Ash. I found the Bubinga's balance excellent!
It easily stayed where I put it, no need whatsoever to support the neck while
playing, totally neutral. On the contrary, the Ash was embarrasingly neck heavy!
I suppose the body is quite lighter with this kind of wood. I used a synthetic
strap with a width of about 6cm (about 2.4 inches) wide. Nothing fancy.

I 'd like your opinion on your $$'s balance since they are made of Ash.
Also the kind of straps you use, etc.

I 'm pretty sure all of you are crazy about all the marvellous tones coming out
of your $$, so please try to be objective! :D

my vette $$ 4 with a leather strap doesn't move of an inch..perfectly balanced :D even with a nylon strap is still perfect...remember I have two thunderbirds, the worst balanced basses ever :roll:
 
My Ash corvette is a bit neck heavy - haven't done a long set with it yet so hoping it doesn't wind me up too much...
 
play an hour with a t-bird and you will never put down your vette :D ever tried with a leather strap? they give way more grip.
 
I have not really noticed any balance issues with my Ash $$. I use a basic leather strap and it fits me just fine. I just got to play it for the first time on a stage last friday and it was awsome!

I use a medium-wide strap and I have no problems. $$ with 5 strings has a great balance, so I would say to go for it! :)

This nifty strap is a solution for neck dive
check it out,I dont own one but it looks pretty good to me.

I have found my Corvette $$ 5 a little neck heavy but I've found that shortening the wide (c. 5") strap so that the body of the bass is a bit higher than I usually play seems to have solved the problem. Takes a bit of getting used to but it's worth a try!

I didn't noticed something similar. In my opinion is well-balanced.
 
I have a $$ 5 and a Proline 4 and I can say that both are well balanced but the $$ is a little bit heavier, but that's something you'll get used to. Go for it, everyday I get more and more crazy about this bass!
 
i have a fortress one, i always prefer to play my bass w/ the neck up (like mr.porcarro of toto), thats why i chosed the long horned fortress one, its perfectly balance for for my manner of playing. correct me if i'm wrong but i firmly believe that that perfect balance always rely on the upper horn in which its lenght affects the weight of the neck, if the horn is too short like those on the thumbs, the neck a bit heavier will dive low thus the bass should be mounted higher almost at chest level like mark king of level 42 (he uses alembic tho) or extremely low at hips level like flea of redhotchilipeppers. in the end i guess it defends on how you prefer to wear it. me i wear it like a shirt i'm comfortable with.
 
A well balanced bass relies on many things. And with warwick basses particularly it varies from bass to bass. The design of the body is definitely a very important thing, how much wood is used, how much they carve to insert the pickups, bridge and electronics, this some of the things they have to take into account.

It's good to hear that you have a Fortress, I bet Beatriz is very happy, she's the Fortress fan in the forum.
 
Just sold my $$ 5

Although I just sold my $$ 5, I can say that using a leather standard width strap, I had no neck dive problems whatsoever...

My thumb NT 5 has a neck dive issue, but I like to wear that pretty high, which solves that problem easily. Compared to the thumb, the corvette $$ was much lighter, had zero neck dive and actually played easier to my fingers, but it just didn't have the tone of the Thumb, and it never will... Now I know where the extra money went into the thumb. The two basses have very different tones, for different applications. I personally couldn't justify the investment in both, so I sold the $$

Don't think twice about buying one though, it is superb bass!
