Hi,
I own 5 string corvette for many years now 1997
All this years I was non pleased with sound, recently I recorded songs
using computer and I noticed that Warwick is picking a lot of EM noise.
My questions
1. will changing pickups solve sound and/or noise problems if which one you suggest
2. will adding preamp change anything if which one you suggest

I have the same problem with the non-Warwick bass I currently own. It has a J-style pickup in the bridge position and it picks up the EMF of my CRT monitor. In fact it's funny, I use a software tuner on my PC and if I turn on the bridge pick-up it registers a noise frequency of 85Hz which is the refresh rate of my screen :) . I am also really interested in learning about the different kinds of MEC J-style pickups (Active/Passive/"Gold"/"Dynamic Correction"), because I intend to buy a Corvette STD 5 string myself. Anyone that can clarify on the different kinds of pickups please do!

E-mail Vlado Hansal at [email protected] He is very willful to help you understand the difference between the various MEC pickups that they make. You should inquire about the noise.

Is it a passive or an active Corvette?

Well that might be the reason, sometimes on-board preamps help cancel out incoming noise.
 
Noise is one problem, the other is sound.
Warwick has good feel and look, but Im not satisfied
with sound of Corvette 5 string.Any sugestion or opinion
is welcome
 
I would strongly suggest chaging your pickups to active ones. The difference will be huge.

Also adding a pre-amp like you mentioned on your post would not be a bad idea. It would definitely change the sound on your instrument I promise.

So one option is to keep my pickups and install preamp
or by new active pickups.
Did you mean MEC or any other
 
I love MEC Gold pickups. But if you buy yourself some bartolinis it would be really good too.

Is the preamp what is mentioned as "active MEC 2-band electronics" in the Corvette STD product page?
 
Preamp?

Yes, it would be. But you don't necesseraly need to install the same preamp. There are plenty of options out there that you can consider. I personally like the combination of the Warwick Bass and a MEC active preamp. But if you want you can look around and see if there's any other options that fulfill your needs.
