Comparing the INFINITY SN to the THUMB neck-through

Hello:

This relates to another post I have, regarding the ergonomic problems of the Thumb bass.

I have been thinking about getting an INFINITY set-neck 5-string, because it looks like it would balance like a normal bass (roughly neck-up, instead of a diving neck like the Thumb 5-string).

Also, it appears the INFINITY SN has a large enough body to properly support a fingerstyle picker, so the wrist is not bent at a horrible angle, as on the thumb.

I love the thumb neck-through 5 string so much, but it may kill me.

Does anyone out there know if the INFINITY solves these problems, and, of course...


HOW DOES THE INFINITY COMPARE THO THE NECK-THROUGH THUMB IN TONE, SUSTAIN, CLARITY, GROWL, ETC.

Man, I'm bummed to hear that you are having trouble coming to terms with what is arguably one of the best basses ever built. Please see my post about "The Squid" in your other thread. This might help.

No way to try them out? If you're gonna give so much money, it deserves a trip... and although you could get a clue here, only you can really answer these questions.
Edit: Just saw in your other thread that you've already got a Thumb NT... so the above applies only to trying out the Infinity.

Having played Corvette and Thumb basses, I can honestly say I havent experienced any of the gripes witht he Thumb that you have. Like was said above however, the best thing to do is to try and check them out yourself. Words here will be a good start, but arent enough to help someone make a decision, especially on such a high end machine.

These two basses are completely different animals. The Infinity SN is a semihollow body bass. A lot of people don't know that is has some acoustic chambers inside, besides that, it comes with a 2-way preamp instead of the 3-way on the Thumb NT. The woods used for the Infinity SN are different than the woods on the Thumb NT bass. The infinity has a Zebrano body with an ovangkol neck and wenge fretboard, while the thumb NT is composed of a bubinga body, with an ovangkol neck and ebony fretboard.

Now, IMO the best bass I have had in my life (And I own a bunch of them) is my Warwick Infinity LTD 2000. It doesn't sound like a hollow body unless you ask it to. It is definitely the perfect bass. I also own 3 thumb basses, one NT and two BO.

Next time ya see Iron Maiden check out Steve Harris" strap,it looks like a rolled up beach towel,I'd love to know what he uses.It looks like my mum knitted it. :lol:
On a final note,why did you buy a bass that doesnt balance to your liking?But then again it is a thumb & theyre pretty hard to resist. :wink:
Seriously,ollie will agree with me on this,the Infinity is an awesome bass in both NT & SN models.Best of luck dude.

Glad that you liked the squid, Greg. I don't have much problem with neck dive myself since I have long arms and play with the neck almost parallel to the floor anyway, but the squid makes a bass very comfortable when you are playing all night, and it won't shift around on your shoulder. At first the squid would slide back and forth on the strap since the strap wasn't very thick, so I actually pop-riveted the squid to the strap (which was a Planet Waves strap by the way).

When I checked out a 5-string last year I indeed found it one of the (fretted) Warwicks I liked best, second only to the Thumb NT, because of its fine tonal quality. Also, zebrano is just too nice a wood...
