I have newer strings on my $$ and now that they are broken it I am getting that click like when the string get to close to the PU's. Is there something I can adjust on my EQ to keep it from accenting the clicks as much? Should I get it reset up. I love the sound so I want to stay with these strings. My Jan 3 came in so may be a good time to get it to the shop...
 
thats the normal sound for when a string touches an open pole. i would either just make sure you dont whack the pickups with the strings or lower the pickups a bit.

Lower the bridge PU a bit. Usually not much needed.
 
Was thinking the same thing. I'll lower them a hair. The string isn't actually hitting it but it sounds like it...
 
I had this same problem with my $$ when I first tried slapping on it. I had to adjust my technique to not play aggressively over the pickups, but do the slapping closer to the neck. The same thing if you really dig in with your right-hand fingering - play closer to the neck or play closer to the bridge, ala Jaco style - just don't play too aggressively over those monster pole pieces - they will let you know it if you do!

Lowering the pickups might help a little and may also tame some of the aggressive volume those humbuckers put out, tough some people like the volume the way it is - the charm of an MM type pickup.

The bottom line is that technique will make the bigger and better difference IMO, unless for some reason the pickups are WAY out of adjustment to begin with...
 
Lowered them a hair and it made a world of difference. I do tend to dig in, but that's what I play. It sounds great in E and Drop D, not so good in Db and C but I don't want to lose any more boom in E by going lower. Cant't wait for my next vette, so I can have it set up for a lower tuning...

Digging in is fine, and even necessary for certain types of music, but it may be necessary to change position when digging in or slapping on a $$ to avoid the clicks - with mine, I kept the setup the same as when I bought it (it was only in GC for two days before I bought it, so no time for the little wankers to mess it up!), but I did slightly lower the pickups like you've done (they were too hot for my taste at the initial height) and I swapped the JAN II for a JAN III. I now play closer to the fingerboard in that open area between the neck and the neck pickup and it sounds great, with no pickup pole click! If I go back to playing toward the middle, over the pickups, the click returns, and I don't really want to raise my action, so technique adjustment was the perfect fix! :D
