Claypool kicked ass, rude crowd needed ass kicked

Did the Tulsa show last night and Claypool's quartet kicked ass for 2 hours. A must see show for people who love bass.

Now for my gripe. I havent been to concerts for awhile and things have sure changed. Maybe its Tulsa,I'm not from there so I dont know. I'd say the crowd was a 50/50 mix of people my age (40's) and the rest were drunk 20 somethings.
All night long people were rudely pushing their way through the crowd, no excuse me's or nothing. Then theyd start this slam dancing crap bouncing around like pinballs into people. Several of us threatened to start kicking ass if the shit didnt stop so they cooled it for awhile then it started again.
I took my kid so he could see some damn good bass and all night had to stand guard to make sure he didnt get hurt. Near the end they started slamming again and when they hit my kid I had enough so I grabbed one and punched him in the face and I had an elbow ready for the other guys face but he wisely stepped back but he decided to take a run at me so I grabbed the guy I just punched and shoved his head into the head of idiot number two coming at me. First time I've gotten violent and had people around me laughing. Cant figure that out either.
Definetely a difference between the older crowd younger crowds behavior. Is this the norm for concerts now? I'll still do shows but I wont make the mistake of takeing family or kids again.
 
Glad to hear you enjoyed the Claypool - shame the rest of the gig wasn't as professional.

I think it's endemic of the lack of respect that seems to be shown nowadays (definite Warwick GOB here). I was watching The Feeling the other week and this guy was talking to his mates really loud - everyone around was asking him politely to shut up. In the end he walked off with his mates...but why buy a ticket if you aren't going to watch or listen.

Happened also at a Francis Dunnery gig where a certain element of the crowd were just laughing and gassing all the way through. Frank got peed off and decided not to do an encore as he was so hacked off.

I find the same happens at the Cinema - talking, using mobile phones etc etc. Get's me really wound up to the point where I just don't go the cinema anymore and wait for the DVD release and watch it at home. I've nearly gotten into fights in cinemas...it's just not worth it. Have I just created 'cinema rage'?? lol

Shame...people just got no respect anymore.

Damn... Stupid kids! At least you taught them a lesson!
That's the great thing about classical and jazz concerts: very few riots and moshpits :D

Nope... Some crazy lady at the movies yelled at my friend for laughing (a lot) at a really funny scene. She later proceeded to talk on her cell phone! What the...?!?!?!
 
I've been to many festivals and concerts. And I've been pushed around a lot. It's annoying, but it's kind of in the music I'm into. (Punk/rock) Hey, at some concerts, I've been pushed around by 40+ people. Had to give one a punch in the stomach because he was trying to push me away from the fence at one concert.

There will always be violent people at concerts, but dude, most kids just jump around in an adrenaline rush having a great time, kinda sucks be the one to kill the mood, if it's even possible.
I guess concerts isn't what it used to be.
 
I didnt have a problem with the kids jumping around having a good time. The ones I'm talking about were deliberately targeting people. This was an all ages show. There were familys around us and they didnt care if it was man, women or child. That had me going already but when you touch my kid it just became personal. If grown men want to bash their heads together that s their business, I dont say anything.
I grew up with the golden rule and I always keep my hands to myself. I do think there is a limit to how much B. S. a reasonable person should have to take before doing something

As much as I hate it while being in the crowd it p*sses me way more off when I'm on stage. Some people should pull their head out of their a$$ :wink:
 
I'm 23 and I feel like playing for a crazy crowd is fun but if the people in the crowd aren't hearing or paying attention to the music then why are they there? I just feel like kids and some adults see things on TV and think that that is what is suppose to happen at a live show. I seen people moshing to music that isn't even aggressive or people crowd surfing when the band isn't even playing. It just seems like people are sacrificing their fun and others fun for what they have been brainwashed into think is "fun".
 
it's standard for anything rock or metal or punk or hardcore.

BUT, it should only be accepted in a metal or hardcore situation where people all know that there will be mosh pits like these. And it's a total shame that these guys just don't know the right time and place to act this way. Damn, when there are kids around, you gotta watch what you're doing. They could be hurt bad real ez.

And for those guys..I'm 24 and I don't like that kind of behaviour any more than you do, but I'm from Holland, so let's blame the USA for everything..the whole world already does!
My reaction usually contains a couple of good shots to the kidneys, or using Tai Chi to throw a couple of those baboons around...which actually equals great fun for me, 'cause the bigger they are..the further they fly! :D

Claypool does rock though, wish he'd come here once in a while.
 
I don't think their is anyone to blame except the stupid mindless kids who cant figure out that you can enjoy some shows more by watching instead of moshing. I love active crowds but its insulting to have stupid mindless kids ruining the show for others. I don't want to sound like a wuss because I love and have been to many metal and hardcore shows where some crazy stuff has gone down and I loved every minute of it. It just doesn't belong every where. If I go to a Dillinger Escape Plan show then I expect the roof to fall and for someone to go home bleeding but if I want to see The Mars Volta or Tool I shouldn't have to deal with some ass hitting me while I watch a performance.

Tool................One of the few bands that I know who openly questions what on earth these moshers are doing at their show.............And they have one of the best seats as well............. :roll:
 
WAIT!!!! how the HELL do you mosh to Claypool?!?!!? :?: :?: Recently this thursday i went to a show and took part in moshing but to a heavy band, those guys who were moshing at the claypool show are just dumb, and if you see a little kid and youre in the pit you usually stear clear of them as much as possible, sounds like you ran into some real a**holes
 
i believe in going crazy and having a good time with the violent moshing, as long as you don't target ppl ...

in our little town, we organize our own gigs and theres always this camp who has a crowd like that - moshing and hitting ppl on purpose to hurt or throw them on the ground. those same group went to metal gigs organized by the old school guys, and they either end up being banned from getting in, or got their butts whooped by the organizers.

i guess its possible to control crowds in DIY gigs, but its impossible to do it for acts like les claypool. im just glad no one there bought a knife because things could really suck if there's an incident like that.

im glad you whoop the guy's a** though... next time, bring some more friends to help protect your kids or those gangs of kids (who probably dont know anything about fighting) from getting physical with you.

dont let the crowd ruin your good time.... i think les claypool is happier with someone like you and your family around, compared to having 50 of those crazy drunks. its true, i read in an interview how he really despises seeing ppl get hurt in his gigs...
