Bass for hard rock/metal?

Hi!
I am about to order a new Warwick for my hard rock/metalbands to compliment my SSII. I choosing between a Streamer Jazzman 5str or a Streamer LX 5str with P/J config.
Any opinions?
Examples of my favorite bassounds are from Eddie Jackson (Queensrÿche) and Marco (Nightwish)

Welcome to the forum, Aslan.

You'll find that you can get a lot of good information here. Just remember that when you ask for opinions, that's exactly what you'll get. So on to mine...

Between the Jazzman and LX (with P/J), I'd go for the Jazzman. That humbucker will add drive to your bass signal and help you cut through heavily distorted guitar(s). Having a mid-control (3-band EQ) will help as well. It's also a nice balance with your SSII.

are you sure? the five string LXs usually have the JJ config...
 
Thanks Evolvebass for your welcome. I have been reading for awhile but not post so much...

I'm thinking of the LX because first Eddie Jackson was playing a Spector P/J in the days and second I play Eden 410XLT cabs so the mids aren't any problem for me :wink:

The LX5 comes with J/J in standard but I wanted P/J as a custom option. MEC has starting to do those 5-str P's...

ahh i didnt know you were planning on getting a CS one. i'd probably go with the LX personally. i think the synthetic (as florin describes it) sound of the LX would compliment the Stage 2 brilliantly

I think I'm leaning in that direction too...
I'm planning a BLACK bass :D 8)
- 5-str Streamer LX
- P/J PU
- Nirvana Black OFC
- Tigerstripe Ebony Fretboard
- Black Hardware

Sounds interesting? :D
 
I think you made the right decision... Eddie's tone is a very "active" sound due to his NS2 with EMG pickups in it. You're going to have a much easier time getting a similar tone out of an LX with active pickups rather than a Jazzman with passive pickups.

The woods are identical to the Streamer CT; I do think that the bass will be very bright sounding, especially compared to the SSII. :roll:
 
I guess I was answering more the "bass for hard rock/metal" question as opposed to "sounding like Queensryche". If your band does a lot of high melodies like they do, the LX might be an excellent choice...
 
Consider the Thumb NT too.
It's the winner when an aggressive tone is needed 8)
 
You simply cannot go wrong with the Streamer LX, and especially with the P/J pickup config...

The jazzman is nice, but you'd probably miss the extra bite that the active pickups would give you.

.........Ok, maybe the Alien or Triumph isn't what you're looking for......... 8)
