Are dead steel strings still more bright than new nickels?

You should always play your strings for atleast a day before using them for a show, that's what I think. I had some bad incidents with guitarists strings.
The worst possible thing is still if u change string completely, and your trussrod might be badly adjusted, that's not nice on stage

I think string brightness is a personal choice, depending on the style & sound of music you play..
Reggae players would want a duller dubby sound with no treble content whereas slap players prefer that zingy/toppy snap of fresh roundwounds
Then you get that fingerstyle funk e.g Rocco prestia/Bernard Edwards with a more low mid/ semi dead string sound that works for them..

I like the sound of fresh strings, treble control set flat, when i need to max the treble, i know i need to change strings.
