Alternate neck profile finally available?

Hi everyone. Since this is my first post on this forum I should introduce myself first. My name is Filip, 18 years old, and I'm from a small town of Paracin in Serbia. Still not a proud Warwick owner (only Yamaha RBX 760A for now), but hopefully that will change soon.

Anyway, I asked for a quote from Warwick Custom Shop through their website (about a custom Streamer Jazzman) and they answered me today. Prices are obviously very high since they are suggested retail price. But in the e-mail I got from them a file was attached with all suggested retail prices including ALL Custom Shop options (dated 4.05.2007)... So, obviously a big file with lots of options (with many of them not listed on the website) :D But the thing that struck me the most was an alternate "Flat Neck" profile. From what I read before on this forum, I thought that this option was not available.... :shock:

Just wanted to inform you all...
 
that is strange :?

but warwick are always doing new stuff so it doesnt surprise me too much :D

I was very surprised too when I've read your post; however, maybe there is an explanation for it. There is a possibility that "Flat Neck" isn't referring to the neck profile, but to the absence of the "volute": There is a CS Stryker that was made for James Lomenzo, which has got this feature:

It says "Alternate neckprofile "Flatneck" for Bolt on Bass", its available for 4,5, and 6 stringers in 34" scale so it's not that specific... I can upload the price sheet if someone is interested...

Warwick basses had a slimmer neck without the volute till '98 if I remember correctly, I think that's what they mean with "Flat Neck".

Indeed, they had slimmer necks in the past, but until now it was impossible to get a CS bass with an "old" slim neck profile. Maybe it changed ?? Who knows. I'm sure that Oliver will give us more information about this. :D

It was actually about February of '96 when the volute became standard, at least according to my 96's. One's a January and it has the old neck (a blank from 95 no doubt) and the other is an August 96 and it has the volute. ~M~
 
wow I really want to know if it is possible, but it would surprise me a lot if it was about the neck profile
 
In the next few months we will be making the official announcement about this. But we intend to add different neck profiles as a Custom Shop option in the future, not just basses without the volute, but slimmer neck profiles and such.

That's pretty soon..............I sure love to see some good quality pics of sexy Warwicks with a slim neck. :wink:
 
Will the CS neck profile option be available for all 4 and 5 string bolt-on necks including the 32" and 30" variety??

I wouldn't be surprised if the procedure is similar to that of the JAN3: they start with the most popular models, 4 string, 5 string (BO and NT), then after a while it should be possible to get 6 and 7 stringers, 30" and 32" models CS built with a thin neck profile.

Good question. :!:
People who prefer shortscales probably would benefit
from slimmer necks as well.
 
Stupid question:

take the two same basses, same woods, electronics and stuff... One with the standard neck shape, the other with the new alternative thinner neck shape... Will they have noticable differences in sound, or will it be just a slight difference ?
 
Merely a guess, but I think it would be undetectable to the human ear, given the neck sizes available...

I guess it would indeed be more of a difference in playability and feel...
