About to order Thumb 2006 LTD need advise please

Hi ,
I dont have a warwick yet but I'm about to buy one online.
It is the Thumb 2006 LTD Dirty Blonde.

I never played it , but it looks so beautiful.

My question is , I'm playing Jazz & funk & I love this basses with this Jaco vibe sound from the bridge pick up(you know what I mean..this vintage fender jazz bass sound)

Is the 2006 LTD has that vibe?

What it sounds like?

I recommend to try at least a "normal" thumb before you buy a limited. For that jaco tone i think a corvette proline would be better anyway...
 
The thumb NT delievers a very good Jaco style sound. being NT has a nice twang too.

Believe me, that guy on those vids is misrepresentation of how those basses sound like, just sounds like a guy belting into the basses as hard as he can showing off his licks :roll: Ive played a Dirty Blonde with practically the same Eden setup and it sounds nothing like the tone he got out of it, beautifully balanced tone. The whole bass is balanced and its probably one of the best Warwick's ive played.. I just dont have that sort of cash lying around for it :wink:

But most basses that have a Jazz p/up at the back will give that Jaco honk you're after or even the dual Jazz which gives a slightly fuller sound while still giving that basic honk.. plus having a preamp will modernise the sound a bit but it'll still be there.
 
I gotta agree with FMJ on this one. I've gotten to play three different DB's (a 5st and two 4st) through an Eden Metro and they were exceptionally well balanced and articulate. With that pickup configuration and preamp, there are dozens of useful sounds in there - and the basses themselves aren't too heavy and hang well on a strap. Awesome slap tone with the 4st too... ~M~

Yeah I watched that vid on youtube , It has nothing to do with a bass sound:-)) sounds more like a motorcycle shifting gears to me....ì dont hear the music in this vid....anyway...
Thanks all , I'm ust invested 7000$ on an Fbass AC fretless(beautiful bass) so i cant go for a thumb NT I dont have the cash for it.
My friend has a corvette proline , great bass but I dont like the neck feel on it , it is very thick neck .
I think the Dirty blonde will be awsome.
This will be my first warwick.
I'll let You know when I get it & again , thanks to all of You for advice!!!

The neck profile of the Dirty Blonde should be the same as that of the Proline...............I think........... :?

The Corvette of my friend is 13 years old & it had that thick neck , I think the 2006 LTD has a flat neck compare to it
 
Don't but online a bass that you never tried!
Especially if you're buying a new one.

I would never spend money on other people's opinions.

About the bass, I never played one.
Pickup configuration is interesting, but I don't think you can easily get a J-bass sound out of it, as far as it doesn't have J-pickups..
 
I tried both a DB 4 and 5 string. to me the 4 sounded heaps better than the 5 for some reason? The DB doesn't really have that typical warwick sound/growl you'd expect from a thumb bass, it actually sounds strangely closer to a fender to my ears (duck*)

I'm sure you could get that Jaco tone out of it by soloing the neck pup and splitting the humbucker to a single coil (pull out the one eq knob...)

The maple neck will also help with that tone...

plus the maple and ash makes it a very light bass to play for long periods of time :D

Yeah I'm lookig for a fender Jazz tone , but I dont want to buy a fender.
I already ordered the Thumb DB & should get it tomorrow!

I also got an vintage streamer (1991) now , but I think I'll sell it soon because I cant afford all this basses....

I absolutely love my 06 DB 4 for what that is worth. If you want that Fender sound but don't want to buy a Fender, I would recommend playing a Fender Marcus Miller 4 before you make your final decision. Can't beat the price (~$700 consistently on eBay) and it is a remarkable Fender bass; much better/different than most other Fender basses. danH
