A little advice regarding my 5 String RB Corvette?!

Hey guys, I've only just this minute signed up but I've got a couple of questions to ask.
I'm not technically minded about what Truss rods are... JAN III's and all of that sort of stuff... I just pick up the bass and play.

However: I've just joined a band and although I don't have a proper rig to play shows I wanted to give my bass a once over so that it's in tip-top condition.
I have a Rockbass Corvette Passive 5.

I bought it in roughly June 2004 from new. UK dealer speedmusic...

Now. The thing that is bothering me about my bass is lead connection, Basically it becomes loose after extended play. Maybe four or five songs. I had been simply tightening it back by rotating/screwing it back in. However at practise last night I was told not to do this as it may pork the electronics inside.

I'm pretty worried about it now. I can open it up and look inside, maybe play about a bit as I'm not too shabby with electronics and repairing stuff. but.... How do I know what I'm looking at is OK?!

I recently bought a new lead to connect to my amp and I notice every once in a while the sound will completely cut out... does this sound to you like I've killed it?!

Is there any way of getting it professionally repaired if so? And if so... In the UK? I do generally take very good care of my bass... it's had very few knocks. only one slightest of the slight scratches where I've restrung it... it's just this lead connection winding thing...

Sadly enough, this is a very common problem with the earlier Rockbasses. As far as i know, this problem has been eliminated. If you want a warranty repair, contact your closest distributer (Dana B. Goods in the US) and ask what they can do. If not, you can buy a new input jack to install or have installed.

This happened with my Rockbass back in the day and my retailer sent it back to be fixed and provided me with a bass to play a gig with while it was gone!

Is installing a new input jack difficult?! I mean... I was a total "newbie" (I hate that term) to bass playing when I bought it and using the 101 instructions on the rockbass site can re-string... I know that's pretty basic... But y'know. You've got to learn some time.

Any idea what actually causes this? Poor workmanship or just design fault? Easily remedied?

oh and by the way... Eventually I'm looking at getting myself a double Buck as they look beautiful. I think i've found a manufacturer for life in Warwick 8)
