'87 Streamer - Upgrade to 3 band EQ?

Hi All,
Haven't posted before so here goes. I currently have an '87 Streamer NT and a Streamer Jazzman. Bought the NT about 7 or 8 years ago and not knowing much about Warwick at the time, seriously thought that I had bought a lemon. It was covered in dust in the shop and had a lot of wear and tear - generally looked rough, but I had heard about Warwick and decided to buy. When I googled it afterwards, saw that the newer ones had the 2 piece bridge, 3 band eq and the adjustable Just-a Nut. ( No research beforehand...doh) Really felt that I had made a mistake. Tried to sell it on (yeah, I know...) and absolutely no takers (Phew). So then I gigged with it and really saw what it was made of.... Absolutely love it now and will never part with it. It has the slimmest neck I've ever played and has a GREAT, even, controlled bottom end. Body wings are american cherry - not sure what the neck is, but has tiny dot markers and a brass nut. Seems funny, but I now like the fact that it is well used and worn. I upgraded the pups to MEC from the original EMGs and got a much nicer warmer tone with stainless strings. However, I do miss the mid control and am looking to upgrade to a 3 band now. My only experience with the MEC 3 band is on the Jazzman and I have to say that I find that a bit choked and compressed in the lows, which would destroy the true tone of the NT.

Any guidance?

BTW, ignore the DIY Thumbrest, I have a bad case of RSI in the arm / wrist and this does the trick. Either that or play with a pick all the time.....nah!

Hello and welcome! :d

Your bass will have a predominantly Wenge neck with maple or cherry stringers (likely cherry as that is the body wings wood).

re. the 3 band EQ - It is a matter of taste but I prefer the 2 band on my Streamers and the differences between the 2 and 3 band EQ isn't just a case of an extra mid control, the frequency centres are different on the systems and that 'does' have an impact!

Hope you get the uploading problem sorted soon as pics are always good but I have a feeling I know how it'll look any way. ;)
 
Cheers Warwickhunt. I moved to using Nickel daddarios in the past year and they may just be that bit too warm and causing the bass to sound a bit muddy after a few gigs. Think I need to try a few types of stainless again. I read that the black labels are good? Play mostly Weddings and covers, but I'm not into slapping so mostly fingerstyle with a bit of pick. BTW, the original EMG preamp is still in the guitar.

If you think to try black labels, then you better buy EMP's instead, they are the same strings, but last muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch longer.
I love the MEC 3 band into a streamer. It might be the way you say, but it has some very sweet sounding mids.

If you do decide to try some EMPs and you live in the UK or EU then I have a brand new set of 45-105s available for £20 (+a little for carriage if in the EU but not too much). ;)

Hey Florin,
Thanks. Do you mean that it IS actually compressed in the lows? I thought that the bolt on / wood type combination was causing this....

BTW, having a lot of trouble uploading - the one pic is 1.8mb and looks like your limit is close to 0.6mb? Looks like I wont get there. Just have the one camera.....:((
 
If you dig in real hard yes, it might compress the sound a little. But for normal playing it is clean.
