5 string w/ high C

So, I strung up my Jazzman with the C string, and ditched the B. It's only been a week, but so far I like it better than before. I never thought I'd enjoy/utilize the extra treble, but I do. Real nice for chords and melody.

Having that extra high C could be a really cool option for someone who likes playing chords from time to time.
 
I've been thinking about stringing up my Thumb NT5 with a high C, and it sounds like the idea worked out very well for you.

BTW, what brand & guage strings did you use?
 
sounds like a good idea... I've thought about that myself... if I ever get a 5 string
 
I been wanting to string up one of my 4 stringers as a tenor. I wish I had a 5-string to string that way, I never use the low B on my sixer anyways. Does anyone know if you can specially order tenor strings without having to buy a 6-string set? and if so, where?
 
I do know that Elixir offer custom sets - you basically buy one of their 4 string sets, then you can buy either (or both) Low B and high C strings separately, in a range of sizes. A good idea, but I don't know if anyone else does it!

Maybe find a low 5 stringer, buy a 4 string and a 6 string set between you, and one takes the B, the other takes the C. Sounds a bit wierd, but you may be able to found someone through this forum!

... or find an alternative use for all those low Bs you don't use! :wink:
 
It seems to me that Rotosound has the 5 string high-C sets, but I never see these at the dealers in my area, so I'll probably be searching the internet, which is not really the way I like to purchase strings.
 
I really appreciate the stringing with a High C, not only for chording but also for soloing. Cheers / mats
 
Hi, nowadays I use only the EBS Titanium nickel strings, I've thrown the rest in the garbage bin :shock:
 
I agree. C-bass is a great way to go. My Thumb NT5 fretless is set up for C. I'm using TI flatwounds. I buy the 6-string set and dump the B string. It works great.

It's damn near impossible for me to find a 5 string set w/ the C, and I hate wasting the B when I get the 6 string packs. Oh well. I use the same gauge as my 4 string .105 - .45 and the C is a .35, I think.
 
Go for the Elixirs and their "Get your 4 main strings and then the extra string you need" policy :wink:



As far as I'm concerned, I own three 5 string basses, all strung in BEADG, I'll probably get my Ibanez SR 905 strung in EADGC next time I change strings...
 
So far, Ive seen that the C strings are in the range of .030 to .035. This I've seen on 6-string sets.

Goto WWW.JUSTSTRINGS.COM you can buy a 4 string set and all the extra strings you want for around 5.00$ a pop (us) (plus the set). (except for .85 and up are more expensive)
