I am new to forums in general but have a question regarding my newly aquired Thumb bass. I know the front of the body is concave but i noticed the neck heel does not sit flush on the body. It seems as if the neck is notched , but it rest higher on the short horn side. Is this "normal" ? It is an all wenge neck. The neck pocket is super tight in the rear. :lol: Also right where the body meets the neck in the rear there appears to be a hairline split in the wood that runs about an inch then fades into the grain. It seems like nothing as it does not feel deep when I run my finger over it . Has anyone heard of nightmares like a split body ? :?

If I understand your description, the neck heel not sitting completely flush on the body sounds normal - my bolt-on has a bit of "slack" space. I'm not sure about it resting higher on the bottom, however. Are you sure the "hairline split" isn't just where 2 seperate pieces of ovangkol come together? Some Warwick's use 2 pieces for the body and some use 3. A picture would certainly help us help you...

Know what you mean and it's entirely normal... the body is contoured and the end of the fingerboard is straighter, so you get a bit of a gap at one or two sides. If you want super flush you'll have to get an NT :wink:
The back of the neck also has a slightly noticeable rise where two joints of wood meet. It's only noticable because my hand's there a lot (obviously). Could smooth it down within seconds with a bit of fine wire wool then wax it up again... but I reckon it'll smooth down just by the action of constantly playing it (that's an excuse to play it more)... so check if it's an actual split or a slight mismatch (as evolvebass also said)!

I've had one or two times where I moved a long distance and when I finally got the basses out to play, I could feel the seams on the back of the neck and sometimes on the body. It's normal swelling from humidity changes as far as I could tell and it's easy to sand back down or just let the wood settle in a bit more. If the bass has recently been shipped to you from a different climate, that's probably what's happening with it. No worries! ~M~
