ive been playing bass for about bass for about three years i thought that it might benefit my bass playing to learn how to play guitar your opinion please
 
I think it's a great idea. Knowing how to play several instruments will definitely help you understand the possibilities of each one in case you are writing arrangements for bands and such. The more instruments you understand, the better you become at yours.
 
Play the drums too. It really helped with my timing and overall understanding of beats. Piano is also a great way to compose.

Absolutely, I started bass from guitar, and it has really improved my 6 string playing! I rarely play a six string anymore because I enjoy the bass so much, but when playing acoustic guitar I can add bass runs between chords that sound really good.

Go for it...
 
do it man, i still play my rg270dx often when i finish practicing bass and want to relax :D
 
I might start learning to play the guitar soon. my band was just donated a beautiful shine guitar and seeing as everyone else in my band already has a guitar...i might beg to look after it :p

has anyone else heard of shine guitars? ive not come across them before
 
neither have i..some bass models have a weird wood combination, like bubinga NECK and mahogany body... :shock:
 
I found learning to drum a great help in my bass playing & you can never get enough tuition,unless your my bass teacher,aussie bass virtuoso Steve Hunter. :D
 
My "incredible career" looks like this:

German block-flute -> piano -> drums -> bass. Actually my piano period is the base for my note reading skills, the drum period gave me the rhythm.

It doesn't hurt to know a bit of everything....
 
do it man!

i play piano and guitar as well as my bass and its just a big advantage when it comes to song writing and arrangements when you know what you're doing on multiple instruments.
 
Learn it + 1. I play bass, guitar, and blues harp...
 
its the clarinet and the saxaphone for me. along with improving your all round musical knowledge its always fun to just muck about on something else. hmmm...maybe its time for a clarinet solo in a track :p
 
I played tenor sax for years (hence the rather silly "saxonbass" name) - also a bit of flute - but the less said about that the better!

Backing vocals are my "thing" now - rather challenging trying to fit in with the bass lines - but good fun trying!
 
lol my bands shoved me to the front so im doing lead vocals now...which isnt ideal as i cant multi-task, i'm struggling to do anything more substantial than root notes with a tiny few extras :( ahh well i've got plenty of time to improve
 
It was guitar and piano for me. I wasn't realy into the piano thing but I forced myself so I could learn reading from notes and learn the theory.
Learn as much as You can You can only benefit from it.
 
And for me it was trombone and bass trumpet plus classical guitar before I saw the light :idea:
