Wut if....???

This morning when I was reading Pedro's thread bout wut Custom bass ya would go for if ya had 3600 poundz to spend, a 'funny' (?) thought crossed my mind...
I've nevah really thought bout buying/ordering a Custom bass, simply cause I'm happy with da basses that I have right now, but above that....I don't have da munney...and chancez are that it stayz that way for a while...:lol:
Anywayz, after I read Boebl's choice (of course da beautiful CS he just received) my first thought was...me too !
But then I wondered at da same time wut Boebl would think if I really would go to a music shop and order a copy of his dream bass...(once again, this is purely fictional, I have absolutely no intentionz to do it for da real !)...
I know of course that no two Warwick basses are completely da same, but I can imagine that one of da reasonz why sumone orderz a CS is that he wantz sumtin exclusive...like even da only one on this planet...8:
Now I have a few 'questionz':
- are there any exclusivity rightz when ya order/design a Warwick CS ? Like for a certain period maybe, or that da customer/designer getz informed when sumone else orderz that exact same bass (so da 'first' customer/designer knowz he's no longer da only one on this planet) ?
- wut's yo thoughtz on this matter ? would ya mind or maybe otoh even honoured if sumone ordered a copy of yo 'unique' custom bass ?

I think do like your dream. Though the Zender-copy is pushing it IMO. Don't see the point...

Well, I think it depends on WHY you are making your bass custom. I would never even think of being offended if some ordered a bass with my specs - it's more like a compliment to my taste. I personally made 80% of the choices only, because I wanted to push the sound in a certain direction - and then I changed optics considering the amount of how much I'm willing to spend. I'm happy that the picture I had in my head turned out to be even better then imagined, and I don't have any problems sharing it with anyone. Either by pics or telling the exact specs so anybody can enjoy a similar bass. No big deal.

I don't think you can really OWN the design - if you made your own bodyshape or something like that (eg. with your local luthier) or if you have something very special considered to be like a trademark for yourself, then maybe I wouldn't be very happy, but also I don't see any reason to be angry. It's still a compliment.

Hmm, interesting post. If I ordered a CS and then somebody ordered one just the same, then, knowing me, I'd probably be both annoyed and flattered! Crazy, I know!

Crazy how i tend to agree with most things Mart says i think i would feel the same as Mart but then again i also think it is quite hard to come up with something totally new and original, most of the times it has been done or thought before by others... so lets put it philisophical: what use does it have when you would be the only person to think new and original things? i think it will be exiting in the beginning but after a while i think you would appreciate the originality of other things not thought- or materialized by you so as an answer to your question; what do you think about it? i think its ok.

I had an old bandmate who brought a new song that he'd written along to a practice. When he played it I thought it sounded faintly familiar, and after a few more listens I knew exactly which hit song he had unintentionally ripped off. When I pointed this out to him (gently!) he admitted it was the same, but argued that if a riff/song sounds good, then somebody will probably have already thought of it! It's bit negative, and although there's some truth in it, I think there's a lot more to be said. After all, there are new good songs, and there are some original basses in the CS gallery that a lot of us like the look of. Somebody's new idea was, actually, worth having!

Right, if I order a CS bass with some new or unique specs, and some time after that I see other CS with the same specs as mine, I´ll be honoured to have a bass with woods/colours/specs that seems to be the weapon of choice for other fellow bass players.

Like having your own "Signature Bass", only that your not getting any money out of it.

I guess it would be kinda nice to own a CS bass and know that you are the only person in the world with that exact bass.

I was just having a look thru the CS price list (trying to make my £3600 bass!) and I noticed that it said discontinued models can only be made with standard specs. Does that mean my awesome CS Fortress with exotic woods and different pickups is neva gonna be made?
