Just played my guitarists bass, Rockbass Corvette 5er with active pickups and WOW!!! This thing sounds AMAZING!! It has that Warwick growl and the capabilities to morph the sound. Slapping this puppy honestly sounded nicer than on my SS2!!

I think I may use my money I get on my amp to purchase a Rockbass!!

Is there any difference between the Rockbass Corvette and Fortress?? Is it just a body preference?



For the money, this has got to be the best bass you can buy!!!!!!
 
On the four string the pups are different,but I think your talking about a fiver so the pups might be the same.Some said the rb vetts and fortress used different preamps but I'm not sure.
 
Yeah, the 4-string Fortress comes w/ P/J pup config, but the 5 is J/J same as the 'vette. Don't know about the preamp, maybe the difference is just that the Fortress has a active/passive switch, the Corvette is active only.
Fortress' body wood is Ash, i believe, so maybe it has more bottom than the Alder Corvette, and a bit less "brightness" in hi mids, both come with maple neck/rosewood fingerboard, FLs are maple/ebony fingerboard. They also have different color options.
Both are very good basses for the money, no doubt about it. And if you're thinking about getting a new one, I'd say wait for the new models ;)

Nope, afraid there's no switch on the RB fortress, its active or nothing lol. As far as I am aware all of the active RB's have the standard MEC gold pickups and the 2 band preamp you would find in the Thumb BO, Dolphin Pro 1, all the SN basses and a few others.

You are right about the bodywood's though ;)

A Rockbass sounding better in slap than a SS2? That hurts my butt...

well, for many people the traditional bolt-on alder/maple/rosewood wood combo sounds better than the exotic neck-thru SS2...
 
My RB vett and warwick vett;s have the same pups but different preamps.I don't like the on in the Rb vett the treble doesen't sound good to me.

Really? I thought they both had the same 2 band preamp in them :confused:

If your 'real' vette has the 3 band preamp then that would explain the difference, as the RB will most certainly have the 2 band.

:d definetely NO.

i like the ssII slap sound.

however, it´s hard to say "that slap sound is BETTER than the other". so many people have complete different ideas about "good sound".

the plec-sound of my vette is "better" for my taste than of my streamer. well that´s not a problem for me, although the streamer was more expensive.

Yeah, I think it has to do with the bolt on construction and woods. Don't get me wrong, the SS2 slap sound is great, plus it is much more versatile, but there is something extra mean and funky about that bass!!

My RB vett is a 06 model.The pots don't say mec and they have split shafts for push on knobs.The preamp doesn't match the one's in my active vets(2 band)I switched the pups out for mec passive ones with a vol-vol-tone set up.But I think I remember florin saying he like the sound of the active ones with no preamp,so I was thinking of trying that set up.
 
I believe the only RockBass with a MEC preamp is the Fortress. Other RockBasses have different, no-name preamps.

My Fortress switches active to passive via the volume knob but thats the only "switch" there is.
 
Still requires a battery though, the Pups are active, pulling the volume knob out bypasses the preamp, but the pups still require batt power.

oh yea...lol sorry brain fart. That is correct...w/out the battery you have nothing.
