I'm still striving to get my first Warwick bass.
I want to get a Thumb NT 4. It seems the newer NT's have a Ovankol neck while some older Thumbs have the 7 piece Ovankol/wenge neck.

I may be wrong, but I would think the 7 piece Ovankol/wenge neck would be a better neck. I am speaking completely out of ignorance. But, it just seems the two woods would be a better neck for the Thumb.

Can you please let me know what you think?

The difference is between wenge vs ovankol, same old discussion :-)

The old one is wenge neck wenge fingerboard. Tight, warm sound.
The new one is ovankol + ebony fingerboard (!!!). Bigger sound, and more "hi-fi"
I like them both. Both of them are equally good, it depends which one YOU like more.
 
I think the old one was 7-piece wenge/bubinga, I mean 4 pieces of wenge and 3 thinner stripes of bubinga. Personally, I like ovangkol necks better than wenge ones, and I definitely love ebony fingerboards most of all... I just wish Thumbs neck could still have those bubinga stripes :)
 
IMHO I always go for the older necks. They look better & sound warmer to me than the ovankol. If you can pick up an older wick then go for it. The profile of the older necks was better as well IMO.

I will say I do like the feel of the Wenge necks better. But they're both really good.
