Wireless Systems...

Hey Guys

After a few months of pretty heavy gigging with the band (Tv IV Dogs), I've finally reached a conclusion: I cannot deal with a fucking cable one second longer!


I've got a bit of cash at the moment, and I'm looking to spend it on a killer wireless system that will allow me more freedom without compromising my tone.

So far I've only checked out one Sennheiser system, and it seemed decent quality - and for the price it should be!!!

Anyone got any guidance to share with me?
 
I use the Samson AP1B wireless. It's small, fits in with your pedals and the transmitter is easy to manage and doesn't need tucking away anywhere and the little wire is more durable than it looks. It comes in some where under £200 and I don't notice any difference to using a planet waves cable what so ever. I use it all the time, except in the studio just in case.

I have no regrets buying it. I use it at every gig except the odd jam night I attend where most old people wont have a clue. :D

It doesn't eat through batteries, or at least the transmitter doesn't. The receiver is powered by an adapter on my board.

I totally recommend it to any one.
 
I had asked a guy to make some research for me. And he told me about 3 brands:
- Senhseiser
- Sony - mostly for TV broadcastings
And one more brand I can't remember the name.
So, if he is true, it means you are on a good track, but you must look for expensive stuff. Wireless are tricky, especially for bass guitar.
 
Yeah, I kinda figured that I would be in for some big payouts for the good stuff!

Apparently the shure wireless kit isn';t bad eiether?

He said TRANTEC and SENHEISER. And he said "forget about Shure and Samson" too. ;-
 
Try X2, I have heard great things about them!

I don't use it as much as I used to, but I was always happy with it. I paid $200 for it new, which is a huge plus compared to some of the wireless units out there that may or not be that much better...
 
+1, x2 all the way!!! i have been using my x2 for both my basses for the past couple of months and can't say enough about it! i have tried quite a few wireless systems over the past few years and none of them could produce the lows of a cable. they would always sound weak and fuzzy. i was going to buy the really expensive shure unit that had a very low frequency response when i heard about an old system called the x-wire system on talk bass. after more research i found out that the old x-wire systems were still in high demand even though the company had stopped making them. so i looked into it more and found out that the company had started up again and had started producing the x2 system. the receiver is very small and very simple to use, and the sound at least to my ears is amazing! the lows on this system are amazing and the frequency response goes down to somewhere around 25hz!!! x2's customer service is also amazing, i have only had to deal with them once or twice but both times, it was a pleasure working with them. if you're looking for an affordable system that is easy to use and sounds excellent i would suggest the x2. as always though, if you can try out as many systems as you can before you buy and decide which is best for you, that is the best thing you can do, but for me, the x2 is amazing!
 
For her Harem tour Sarah Brightman used Senheiser wireless systems all across the board. Through a Nexo Geo-T P.A. system. I saw the show in person, I have never heard sound that comes anywhere close to that. For wireless I'd say go Senheiser.
 
My singer uses Shure for vocals, and it works like cream on the cappucino. But thats vocals, though. I have no experience with instruments on this system.
 
Hi all, I want to get an wireless system, but don´t have thaaaat much money... it should cost about 250 - max! 300€. The most important thing I need is a system that wont influence the sound of my instrument. No need of playing in a distance of 100 meters... I know that good wireless systems aren´t very cheap, but any suggestions nevertheless ? someone experiences with this one ?
 
I've got the Airline bass system. It's ok, but probably not if you're touring heavily or playing every night.

I'm looking at a Sennheiser. I'll get it when I need it.
 
I use the sansom wireless at every gig and practice. Never had a problem in the last 18 months of use. Keep it in a flight cased pedal board. It's a good price and doesn't degrade my sound at all.
 
I understand that the Sennheiser is a great unit, but I haven't been able to test one out yet.

If you are fortunate enough to test out a wireless unit before you buy, compare it to your guitar or bass cable to tell if the tone is altered. Some of the wireless units out there can kill your tone, depending on what type of sound you are going for.
