I am using MEC Pus on my Thumb 5 NT, but it didn't come with the bass, the original PUs is Bartolini, the BEC 2 band preamp shows it setup from the factory.

For the best slapping sound, I tried EMG and found that EMG maybe better for slapping, then I tried EMG BTS preamp...after fews years, I feels the tone is too cold, I tried SD APB-5 PUs....and...the pickup position seem doesn't fit Thumb 5, the B & G string sound too weak...and the tone is also very mono....

Then I tried MEC...my first MEC PUs on my Warwicks....it is funky, not cold like EMG and for focus tone...I start to think that Warwick use MEC pus for reasons....

The stroy is not ended....the best sound I got from my Thumb bass is the moment I used Bartolini, I am not talking about slapping, I mean the finger touch, very deep and warm , another reason I miss bartolini is because the Thumb always doesn't give me the big bottom tone, I mean the feels of SSI or Fender bass, sounds big....huge punch, I ask this question on the forum seveal times and I understand that it is what Thumb like...but I just want to improve it, get bigger bottom, I would like to know from the Thumb owner with Bartolini PUs, how do you think of your slapping tone?

I know its not a Thumb, but Florin has mirrored Bartolini P's in his X-Bass. Soundclips sounded awesome!

And again, not a Thumb, but I've got Bart's in my Zon, ane they're the best pickups I've ever heard. Granted its apples to oranges having a composite neck, but I get tremendous slap tone, with every little harmonic. Then with a preamp tweak, I've got nice round bottom end, the kind that gets TM's booty movin'. I guess its the Swamp Ash that shines through in that scenario.

Iirc, the JD Thumbs all came with Bart's, and I know there's at least two JD owners here...

I have Bartolini's on my Streamer Stage I 5 stringer, the sound is great, not to much highs, more mid and lows, and as you mention vary wam sounding indeed.

About me, I just want to enjoy this topic :-) It was an endless story with Joe, haha!

yes, still looking for big bottom sound from the Thumb bass, or maybe can Florin tell me which Warwick is the mix of Thumb & Streamer, super tight finger and boom slapping tone!!

No one. Because they are very different types of sound. Ok if you insist... maybe a Music Man type of bass can sound thumbish but with bigger lower end, but it will have far less articulation.
