What makes them so much more desirable and expensive than the others?
 
Just being the total and utter king of midrange growlyness. Also they are pretty versatile and got voted best bass over 2500 dollars by a popular magazine. In short: they rawk!

Dolphins be more desirable in my house tho.

Hi Buddy.

It is hard to explain if you never played one. They simply feel and sound different than any bass out there. They sound somehow like a church bell :-) Lots of harmonics and solid mids. Also deep lows, and good highs. It has everything there. Therefore, it is a very versatile bass.
 
Its probably the most expensive streamer due to the hidden neck construction, materials and "custom" inlays. there are more expensive wicks: vampire, most sigs, and maybe the infinity and dolphin. personally i would love one, but i think my dolphin SN gives me what i want in terms of J pups and afzelia :)
 
I think Florin said it best. The versatility is what does it for me, along with the feel. Mine balances perfectly, has the best feel of any bass I've personally played, and leaves me wanting for nothing. I love all Warwicks, but the Stage II will always be top dog in my book.
 
It has that Mike-Tyson-punch to it... and regarding versatility: compare the sound of P-Nut (311) and Dirk Lance (Incubus): both play SSII`s with the same electronics and PU`s (afaik Seymour Duncan).
Apart from the Thumb I have never come a across a bass that responds so well to your playing technique soundwise.

Nope, just the punch. For ear biting, grab a Stingray and boost the treble all the way up! (Though I do love Stingray's too, albeit in a more toned down capacity)
