Which strings are on new Warwick basses

I am wondering what Warwick strings are new Warwicks? Which ones are on the new Thumb NT 6 that I just bought? Are they the Red Label, the Black Label, the Yellow Label? I like the set and want to know which it is and so I know the gauges.

If you bought a brand new Thumb NT it should come with Warwick EMP strings.

if you bought it new it should come with - the Warwick Bass User Kit including an additional set of strings.

Until 2005/06 it was Black label strings after that EMP if I remember correctly
 
I did buy it new but its 'old stock' - a 2007 model - that once belonged to US distributor Dana B Goods. The user kit is included but the extra string set is missing or I would have known the type.
 
Well, if the bass has coated strings, they should be EMPs, if not, Black Labels. But who knows, maybe the seller changed them, so...

They would appear to be the original strings put on by Warwick. The strings sound brand new and would seem to be stainless steel rounds not coated. The bass is new old stock - meaning its been sitting since 2007 waiting to be sold ..... to me :-)

I like the way it plays and sounds and I want to know what the string gauges areso I can duplicate it. Is the low B string a .135 or a .130? And If they are the Black Labels type or not.
Florin may know?

I want to buy some sets at the upcoming Dallas Guitar Show in mid April.

2007 is EMP! (very thin coat you may not notice)

If they are coated it is very, very hard to tell. So the B is a .135 then and strings are EMP. Now i know what type to look for. I will look online as well. Any online sellers of Warwick strings come to mind?
 
EMP strings are coated but feel and sound just like Black Labels. Maybe they ARE the same and they are fooling us all?? :p

Digging my EMP's so far, just sound a little dull out of the box, not overly bright like other 'New' Strings
 
I have not played the Black Label strings. And I don't think I have played any brand's coated strings before. The EMP strings on this NT6 sound great, still sound lively and feel great on the fingers. So coated strings are pretty cool I am thinking.

Now for a stupid question since I've never used coated strings: what is the purpose of coating strings? Longevity? Keeps your hand dirt / sweat from sticking to strings? Multi-colored strings that glow in the dark? Lol

The EMP strings cost a bit more than the non-coated. As a test I will invest in a set or two -- will they be worth it? We will see. I ordered 2 sets from Musician's Friend.

Coated strings will last longer than non coated strings. Thats the idea behind them, keeps out the dirt, or something to that effect.

Previously I used Elixir's Coated strings pretty religiously and they are not the same as EMP's. Their coating is slippery on the fingers making the strings silky and smooth, but still have great tone. Warwick got pretty unnoticeable coating with the EMP's, they are just as rough as the non coated Black Label strings which is hard to get used to after being on Elixir's so long.

Elixir's for me are a few bucks cheaper than EMP's but they are more common and easier to come by, as far as tone battle between the 2 I definitely prefer the EMP growl a little more. The Elixir's were brighter sounding to me, but sometimes the harmonics (unintended) overpowered the natural tone, the EMP's mellow that out big time and you get great Warwick Growl.
 
I am looking forward to playing the Warwick EMP strings for a while. I have not tried Elixer. I see bassists playing Elixers much more frequently - in fact DRs and D'Addarios for sure - than any of the Warwick strings.
I buy from Musician's Friend sometimes so I ordered some EMPs yesterday. My bass is set up for those strings. I will see if I like them.

I wonder if any booths at the upcoming in April and very large Dallas Guitar Show will sell Warwick merchandise.
