which cab?

okay... i have a Hughes and Kettner BassBase 600 (650 watts with a tube preamp). I also have the 4x10 cab that came with it. It has seen better days but i really don't want to get rid of it. I'd like to add onto it. I'm looking into a Warwick (I play a rockbass corvette V), an Ashdown, or an Ampeg. I was wondering if i should get a 1x15 or another 4x10.

Here's my problem:

The cab is rated at 800 watts but everything sounds muddy comming through it. The low B doesn't sound worse than the rest, but i just can't get a clean sound with the lower notes in general. My highs and mids sparkle (great adjective, right?) bit i'd like the clean up my low mids and lows. so basically, anything on the E or the B, but only at high volumes. I know the amplifier is highly capable, so i'm in the market for another cab.

and also! can someone explain the whole ohm thing to me? that has always been over my head.

I'll exaplain the ohm situation to you, but I would need a little more information on what your situation is with your cabs to be able to give you my opinion on it. I really don't understand exactly what you want to change about your sound, and it seems to me like it is just a matter of adjusting your EQ settings.

Ohm:
Ohm is the measuring unit for Impedance, and this represents how much resistance the coils of the speakers are putting between the incoming signal and the sound coming out of the speakers. Most amplifiers have an impedance of 4ohms and most cabinets have an impedance of 8ohms. The higher the impedance, the lower the sound. A lot of people tend to use two cabinets wired in parallel in order to bring their impedance from 8ohms down to 4ohms and match it the output of the amplifier. Some people that decide to use a single cabinet look for cabinets rated at the impedance as their amplifiers.

i just think that i need a cab to handle to lower notes because i don't think the 10's are doing to well with it at high volumes. my cab is only an 8 ohm, so i guess i should look into getting another one anyways to get the maximum power out of it. any suggestions?
