I recently got a '94 Thumb 5, and the volume pot seems to be bad. I can find the MEC site, and the Warwick site lists prices in Euros, so none of that seems to be in the USA. Any ideas?

Krabster - Give Dan at the NY Custom Shop a call or email. He should be able to get you the part you need. [email protected] or 212-777-6990. Please let me know if you've got any questions or need assistance in any way. Thanks!

There is a guy selling MEC pots on eBay based in Michigan, just search for MEC in musical instruments.

Thanks. I shot some WD-40 into it, and it's working pretty well for now, but I'll eventually have to replace it.

IMHO it would probably better to flush the pot with a non-residual electrics contact cleaner. WD-40 and the like can leave oil in the pot, which then gets dust stuck in it that further wears the pot contacts. A purely volotile cleaner can get rid of grease/dust, push it out of thw workings and then evaporate leaving the pots cleaner. It wont fix a worn pot, but it can significantly extend the life and prevent future damage.

I tried some pot cleaner, but it didn't have much effect. I used WD-40 as a last resort. I'm probably going to have to replace the pot, but it's good for now.

Never got a response from [email protected]. :(( However, I called the Warwick NY Custom Shop this morning, and they had one. It should be here in about a week. I do a lot of my own work, but I don't know if I want to tackle de-soldering that circuit board and soldering it on the new one. I'll probably take it to my local shop.

Do it! I tried this myself and it was a disaster... Let other guy to to this nasty job :)
