I bought it at a garage sale years ago thinking it was a machining tool but once I started working on frets, I've been using it to measure height. It's unbelievably accurate for that. I couldn't set up the Mexican jazz properly so I measured fret heights with this device and they were all over the place. I tapped them down, levelled and dressed and it's very nice to play now. I'm kind of miffed that a new guitar required all that, but it is a Fender after all.
I've never seen anything like it on any of the luthier supply sites, so if anyone can enlighten me, I would appreciate it.
