Recently picked up a GPS Thumb BO 5 from Sweetwater. I noticed that if I played a bit harder, I would get distortion from my clean signal. And would happen more easily down tuned. So, I changed the battery, still there. Lowered the volume pot, still there. Panned between pickups, distortion was there on both. I ended up lowering the pickup heights and that worked, but I felt odd that I would have to do that. Tried looking it up and only found one or two posts saying they had to do same issue. I'm just concerned that maybe it's a preamp issue, but then I'd assume the distortion wouldn't go away at all then. Any thoughts or suggestions? I am leaning towards pickup height being the issue because it was worse when I drop tuned, leading me to believe that the string was just getting even closer to the pickup and causing too much input. I just wanted some second opinions from other Warwick owners to see what you all think, would hate to have spent the money on this awesome bass and it's a little preamp causing an issue, or something else I'm not thinking of. Thanks in advance!

Pickups can be too high on all basses and will cause distortion, this is normal.
