What is killer slap tone? List your faves here

Ok, now I know this is a slightly personal thing and beauty is in the eye and all that, but I'm interested in views on what you guys think is the most killer slap tone you've heard on a record*

You don't need to post clips (but that would be cool for those with the technical know how)...just names of songs, the album and bassist will be suhweeeet.



* yeah, I know...I'm an old(ish) fart. Record refers to tape, vinyl, cd, mp3, dvd etc etc :wink:
 
Victor Wooten has a great tone. Alain Caron is pretty good too... But there are many players out there that rock at slapping, I'm not one!
 
Jonas Hellborg on Elegant Punk is great. He even does a Hendrix cover.
 
Stuart Zender on "Mr Moon" (from Return Of The Space Cowboy).

Pretty sure it was recorded on a Stage 1... it's got that really woody tone.

The best live slap tone I've heard is Seth Horan playing a Thumb 5NT Thru a Hellborg rig,well at least that's the best I can remember.
 
Marcus Miller - Period. Entire M2 album. Or more or less everything he's ever done, however M2 is produced amazingly well. The sound on the entire album is STUNNING :shock:

Now as for live I'll get back to ya... I'll be seeing him live in a months' time :P

You bastard! I'd kill to see Marcus Miller live! Make sure you have an amazing time for me! :)

As for amazing tone...I really like a VERY high output on slapping, with a relatively 'scooped' sound...can't really think of many examples apart from my own band (www.myspace.com/tvivdogs - the best example I can give is 'Prison, Drugs and Economics;), but the tone is just amazing to me, its a '93 streamer with the P pickup solo.

I also have a big soft spot for the 'old school' slapping sound - Marcus Miller, Louis Johnston etc.

Vic Wooten and Steve Bailey also manage amazing tones, but I don't know how well they'd do in a band situation. I guess there are different things that make a bass tone more or less suitable for solo playing or band situation. *shrug*
 
I was at the North Sea Jazz festival in Rotterdam this summer. A friend who was with me said lets go for the stage where Amy Winehouse will come. Well she did not come and when the curtain opened: surprise surprise, Marcus Miller was replacing her!!

Definitely one of my favourite slappers,not only on recording but also live. So Indianerdaniel you will really enjoy it.

Honestly, I agree on Oscar Stagnaro on the Stage I. I actually saw him playing an LX a few months ago and he had a pretty amazing tone.

But my favorite slap tone of all is Flea during his early days.

Marcus miller for me! smooth, deep and cutting.

and my RB streamer also has a nasty slap tone. wait till i put some 18v electronics shit in it! haha
