What effects do you use?

I know this topic has been done before, but I'm sure many of you are like me - you continue to evolve your sound. And while I'm still very "protective" of my main sound, I've started to experiment a bit more with effects lately. How about you?
 
I got the Digitech Synth Wah.
Don't use it tooo often, but sometimes I just need and use the Wah-Effects.

In combination with the Digitech JamMan I recently ordered (should be here tomorrow) this could make some wicked solo-tracks.
We'll see :D
 
I mainly play clean, but sometimes use a bit of Chorus or Distortion. Recently started playing around with Phaser too, so cool!
 
I'd like to get some effects also but I'm sure I'd become a wanker...
 
I mostly use clean tone with the pickup pan knob to get different sounds from my thumb. Other than that I use Tech21's XXL bass edition distortion pedal and Ampeg's SCP-OCT octave pedal. Though I heard good things about TC and MXR... Does anyone here use bass whammy, because I believe the one for bass sounds better than just the red whammy that most guitarist use. So hard to find one...
 
now that I am playing in a 4 piece groove-rock band the only things I really use are an octaver and fuzz pedal to beef things up where needed
 
I did use my digitech bass driver a fair bit. I only really use that now for a couple of songs, since discovering a very nice ballsy sound in my amp. I also use an aria wah pedal. Good fun and puts a smile on peoples faces because so many still aren't used to it.
 
Most of the time I'm playing clean tone - I occasionally use reverb, chorus, envelope filter, synthesizer/auto wah
 
I like to use distortion (Fulltone BassDrive) frequently. Also I like to play around with chorus and an envelope filter when the mood strikes, but for the most part they are more toy than tool.
 
Until recently (last week) I played completely clean, then got a Digitech BP 200. Since I'm a retard when it comes to effects I've just been farting around with the presets. Some are useless, some are great. The smooth sound is amazing, the growl sound really adds presence, very clean effects with minimal hum or buzz, despite what I've read in reviews I find the tuner works very well. I've always liked Digitech stuff, still do based on this recent purchase.

The Whammy is one of the new effects I've been using, actually. Unfortunately the only way to get a Bass Whammy is second hand, and they go for $450+ on eBay. But my understanding is that the only major difference was in the "harmony" presets. The Whammy 4 tracks bass really well, so it's worth considering anyway...
 
Always played with clean sound and to get an effect I've used mute style or slap. I private though I've had loads of fun with effects :D

Thanks Evolvebass, I've always wanted to test the "divebomb" function on bass. Hehehe.
 
A year ago I had compressor, chorus, Aphex bass exciter, drive.... now I just have my EBS microbass for DI and eq into my amp... every thing else flat. I think most of us do go through phases on these things! The big change with me was getting a Thumb... didn't really want to mess with that sound.

Still got all the old pedals, though... you never know!
 
i mostly play without effects but i have a maxon envelope filter that i love to use and an ibanez synth bass pedal which i'd like to upgrade to a proper one as its more a fuzz/overdrive pedal. I also use a korg electribe to run and effects loop though with triggers and stuff as that can get some fun effects...fun...not useful in anyway :D
 
I've posted this before, but here's my effects pedals:



I also have a Lexicon MX200 in the rack for delays, verb, and chorus. The pedalboard is very portable since it's built into the rear rack lid - just slap it on the rack and I'm ready to roll; pop it off at the gig, connect the snake, and I'm ready to play!

But like most here, I do not use the effects for any main tone, only for certain moments where some funk or grind is needed, or a nice liquid texture... The only effect that gets the most use is the Mini Bi-Comp Orange channel compression, and maybe the chorus in the Lexi gets more use than the others...

BTW, I swapped the input and output capacitors in the Fuzz Factory to 100uF, like a Wooly Mammoth has, and I get a little more bass response, but not as much as I would like, so I use the Red Onion Loop with Blend control to try and get more of the dry bass sound in the mix, but it's very hard to dial since it is passive and the Fuzz Factory is a very interactive and quirky pedal that likes to mess up audio signals rather than let them play nice together. I've finally got it dialed in pretty good and the Comp helps balance the levels out when needed.

PS: I'm still searching for the right fuzz, or more ways to mod my FF for more dry bass response to leak through. I love the kind of fuzz the FF makes, and it has a noise gate as well. If it had the same kind of bass response as the Wooly Mammoth while keeping the insane, interactive fuzz it now has, it would be perfect!
 
If I didn't use just a 4-space rack, I'd be stealing your pedalboard idea for sure... :wink:
 
A Digitech X Overdrive, and a Hartke VXL Pre-amp.

Sometimes, my BOSS Me-8B is dusted off.
 
Interesting to see how many people have Digitech stuff. I love mine. They're actually based in Sandy, Utah, that's about a half hour from here. Wonder if I show up if they'd gimme a free sample of summink.. :D
