what do you think this would sound like

okay im thinking of getting a new bass, i already own a thumb BO which i love to death. Now bassically its between two basses, the lakalnd JO5, and a corvette BO $$ custom shop. I know you might be thinking they are completly different animals. The big problem is that they are both quality instruments, and ive tried a lakland and bassically i wont know exactly what the $$ will sound like. Bassically my custom shop would be A double buck 4 string BO with a different finish, and more importantly a ebony fingerboard. Ive heard alot of people saying the tone is already dark and somewhat unclear as it is. And from what i heard ebony makes it even more compressed and flat sounding. So question being is it likley that this custom shop will sound like a mud machine? And also i know u can switch to emg Pups, is it a option or a upcharge to change the mec ones? Anyways opinions and impressions would be greatly apreciated, thank you.
 
Unless I'm off my rocker, ebony is much brighter than wenge, not darker. And yes, you can get EMG pickups for an additional charge... Good luck!
 
ehhh, no the $$ isn't a mud machine. Have you tried it? Did you think it was a mud machine? man you gotta play a bass before buying it. Try other stores to find one before because it could a great disappointment if after 4 months of waiting for a CS bass you don't get what you expected.
 
Well, putting Ebony on a fretboard is always good if you're looking for bright sounds. The whole idea behind the $$ is to sound powerful. I've seen the bass being used in many different situations, ranging from heavy metal to funky latin music and it has been good on all. I think Ebony is too bright sounding for the passive humbuckers on the $$.

I have to agree. It's interesting though, ebony has been used for several of the Special Edition $$'s...

Nice vid! I really dig the sound of the $$ (first time I've heard it). Still think it's ugly though :wink:

hey oli could you explain to me what the sound of a $$ would be like with a ebony board plz?
 
The $$ is a cool bass and with it's wide range of tones it is no mud machine (unless you want it to be!). There again I suppose i'm a bit biased. :D
 
The $$ video was great, but whats up with the corvette standard video?...

I love seeing the $$ getting praise, but it's worth pointing out (even though I couldn't read the review) that that's the Streamer $$ with a maple neck...
 
everywhere is mentioned the "the double buck" and don't forget that we talk about a custom corvette that can be made with whatever neck or body you like ... :D and is a comparison between the other two basses on the page.

"we think the double buck is one of the most versatile basses warwick has ever made .. etc." wich double buck? i think the 1000 Euro $$ in general .. that means is not a 8000 Euro Fodera but a very good bass for the money, and truly versatile unless you will search forever for "that single coil" sound.

it is a good double humbucker bass, and it is fun to play. :wink:
