Yep. Bought the Agua De Annique CD via preorder the day it was released. And her work on Devin Townsend's "Addicted" CD is probably some of her best ever. Devin + Anneke = Pure musical bliss. Plus she's a complete sweetheart of a person and VERY easy on the eyes. Perfect package for a performer.

Anneke was the person who got the Gathering the attention that made them big, before her the Gathering was quite different, one of the guys sang and that was just another level. i first noticed them really when their song: strange machines came out that was quite big here in the Netherlands at that time:

"In Motion #1" was the first song I heard on a Century Media Records sampler back around 1996. I listened to THAT song over and over on a trip from Pittsburgh, PA to St. Louis, MO. I bought the Mandylion CD as soon as I got home and The Gathering was my first foray into female-fronted bands (and opened a LOT of doors for other bands worldwide) and changed my entire perspective of what metal could be.

In fact, that same sampler CD got me into Stuck Mojo and the mighty Devin Townsend, as well. Devin, interestingly enough, via this little gem:

Anneke is just a fantastic singer, amazing. I regret never seeing them live. A friend used to tell me that in addition to her incredible voice she had this great presence on stage, you could not take your eyes off her.

Funny (?) thing: da Gathering was never really popular in their home land...in fact I think when I ask da first hundred people that I meet on da streetz here to tell me wut they know bout Da Gathering, da responze will be close to da zero...

I'm a fan tho...8:

The Gathering recorded their first album (with a male lead grunter) and some other work over at my dad's studio. I was living there at the time and remember them as some of the nicest bands to have met.
Great atmosphere in the studio and it was Hugo who made me want to play a Warwick (I had a Chris Larkin Bassix at the time).

Later on we were their support act Heilo, where a metal band from Texel (forgot their name, but it was crystal something) who were BIG fans of TG had showed up to meet their heroes. None of the Gathering seemed to bother paying any attention to them.
This is where my brow raised slightly and I said 'hmmmmm is this the price of fame?'. We sadly haven't seen them much after that day as their music got less brutal while ours went more in the direction of some hardcore metal/Funk crossover style, way way way in another direction. :)

All of this was years ago and the band I played in in those days is long gone. Time marches on.

Still, The Gathering were ahead of their time and in my opinion opened up the genre that made Within Temptation big. I still prefer TG over WT.

heh...not sure bout da name of that band from Texel, but iirc it was sumtin like Crystal Illumination....

I unfortunately never saw them, either. True, though, regarding Anneke. Even watching the DVDs, she is riveting. She never stops smiling and engaging people with her eyes. She dances like a white girl, but... :)

Oh, by the way, here's my right-now listening:
