I'm still playing the Warwick. I have tried a few other basses recently but finding the sound I get from it through my trace is difficult. I am kinda getting used to the neck now, as I said a lot of it could have been cos I have been playing lead guitar for years.

I play in a wedding & function band so I need to get a lot of different sounds from my bass from rock to soul to funk and I haven't found anything versatile enough as yet to compete with my present amp and the streamer.

So it looks like the warwick is not only staying but is shortly to get a companion as I am now looking for another one

Something that might help. A lot of players like to play with a thumb over the neck grip on their left hand. I don't think this would work great with a chunky Warwick neck. I have small hands and since I started playing bass I have been positioning my thumb on the lower side of the back of the neck. I own a slim necked 5-string at the moment and this actually feels uncomfortable. Thumb is too close to the other fingers to provide a strong enough grip. A chunky Warwick neck actually feels much more comfortable to me, the irony eh? I am sure you have tried a lot of things in your past few months of trying to come to grips with your instrument (pun unintentional), but I mention that just in case. Try a higher position of your bass on the strap and position your thumb on the center or bottom of the back of your neck. (I mean the neck of your bass )

It was recorded via a DI out from a Trace Elliot V-type Head...

That's what I currently use, but I find the sound (at least through a speaker) I get lacks punch and definition, and the treble sounds horrible. WIth the mid push/pull engaged, the sound is too harsh. Everything sounds muddy...

Perhaps I just need to re-tube it...

Great that you stay with warwick!
I really love warwick necks. There are many people which dont, but I'm preety shure if someone likes the sound he can also get used to the neck, and it really is worth it!
