I got some extra information from our Tech department on this matter. The weight also depends on the wood that the bass is made out of and the number of strings. However, each piece of wood is unique and therefore has its certain density. You are highly recommended to try one in a store to judge if you can carry it or not. Writing weight is just a number - trying a real instrument gives an idea of weight / balance.
