Yup, really cool thing. The video is quite old though, I think I saw it in 2005 or 6. There's a large mechanical contraption taking up oodles of space under the fingerboard.

well it's 5000 USD, so personally I would just buy 2 basses at this point. Also, if the mechanism breaks, I bet it's a pain in the ass to repair. Refretting would be near impossible. Finally, fretless mode gotta have super high action. I rest my case here.

I think you're right Rusty.iirc it works off a solenoid.
There's another bass similar that has interchangable fingerboards,so the action remains constant.

That's a very good idea in theory. It wasn't executed exactly right here, I don't think, but it's a valient effort none the less.
