Warwick Streamer Stage 1 5er Crackling and Popping

Hi guys,

Recently I picked up my bass again after about 2 weeks of not touching her and she suddenly began to crackle and pop.
This crackling n popping persists also in passive mode. So I thought she could be running out of batteries!
I ran down and bought her a piece, installed it in her but to no avail, the crackling and popping does not go away.
Any ideas? Please help me.

If its any help I am electronically trained (not the very good kind) and I am able to do some soldering and measurements if needed.

Warmest Thanks,

Eugene

You could have some wiring problems/electronic problems. Moist maybe?
Also check your amp, input and cable....

I'm a complete noob when it comes to electronics, but maybe a grounding issue? does it only happen with the SSI or with other basses also?

Try to eliminate any mechanical problem, like loosen wire, or ouput jack. Leave a string ringing, and move things around, shake the bass, move the cable move the batery, etc.

Lemme know :-)

It wasn't the cable for sure, I swapped out 2 cables.
Having sold my Fender, I couldn't test it with another bass.
But I did have a stereo mini to 1/4" mono cable, so I tested it and the amp played music fine.
With that I am also ruling out the amp.

When I played a string with the preamp on, it sounded like explosions (sounds like it was clipping).
With the preamp off, there was still cracking and popping but the bass sounded normal.

When I first plug in the bass it sounds ok, then the crackling and popping gradually comes.

I also moved the input jack around and thats definately not it too.

I tried moving the preamp inside but there wasn't any difference.

I am not sure but I used a Ever Ready Heavy Duty battery instead of an alkaline one.
