Hi everyone - been a long time since I've been very active on the Warwick forum. Hope everyone is well and rocking!
I have the oppurtunity to pick up a Quad VI amp for a decent price and just asking peoples opinions. Not many online reviews that I can find but all are positive.
I really want to know what people think of the reliability, and whether the amp can produce a bright/grindy rock tone (not scooped per se, just a tone with a bit of an emphasis on high mids and a touch of overdrive).
I had a Mesa M-Pulse 360 and GK 1001RB in my sights before this one came up but the Warwick has me intrigued and is a good price as I mentioned.
Any opinions welcomed.

I never played this amp, but IIRC it is an older version of the tubepath, made in Germany, so it is a good quality amp. And you can get a nice tube grit if it is similar to tubepath.
 
Thankyou Flo - been away for too long.
Spoke to the guy tonight and it seems that I'll have this in a few weeks. I'll post opinions then.
 
Buy it with caution because if it has a problem, you will have a very hard time (impossible?) finding spare parts. I had a Quad VI that needed a simple mute switch, and Warwick informed me the parts were discontinued. Two amp shops in Nashville could not find any parts. One offered to rig up a toggle switch but I declined. I ended up giving the amp away. It still does not work :)
 
I think you can find different parts to do the job... Hen the mute toggle switch of my xtreme broke, I just took the first one that I found...
 
Thanks for the warning but I am happy with my purchase, plus I have a local amp guru who is great at fixing stuff when broken.
He is a little eccentric - I once overloaded an old Fender BXR 400. All it really did was blow a power section fuse (from memory). While he had it (an you have to realise at the time it was a 15 year old amp) he noticed that it hadn't had a factory upgrade to some component that the amps were recalled for years ago. He did the upgrade for nothing!
I've paid for the amp and should have it in a week or so. I'll post my thought when I get it. I cant wait.
I'm even interested in the effect loop. It seems to have a blend. Does this mean I can run a "low end sucking" distortion pedal in the loop and blend in the amount of dry signal required? Never had an amp that does this before.
 
I've picked up the Warwick Quad VI and I wont ever need another amp. It's incredible folks.
I have put my feelings and a little reveiew in the "Show your amps" sticky.
Nice new avatar BTW Florin - you look at little different than your Youtube clips! Sort of the opposite that happened to Michael jackson's skin colour! The hair is a definite improvement though :lol:
 
Hey folks - still can't believe how lucky I was to get a great deal on this amp. It's exactly what I wanted in an amp feature wise and tone wise.
Just out of interest can anyone tell me what frequency centres the mid position controls affect? I've got the manual (nothing stated in the manual in reference to frequencies) and have searched online to no avail. I thought Warwick themselves may if anyone has any contact with the people there.
I played a live band gig (rock covers) on the weekend and the tone and volume available through 2 ABM 410 cabs was truly monstrous, and that's with the volume at about 9 o'clock!
 
It should be as in Tubepath:
Low Mid 1 180 Hz ±10dB
Low Mid 2 320 Hz ±10dB
Hi Mid1 600 Hz ±11dB
Hi Mid 2 1,1 kHz ±11dB
 
Thanks Flo - and yeah those frequencies sound about right so I'd say you are correct. I just like knowing for some reason!
I can't believe how perfect the sound for me is out of this amp. It's neither Tube nor Solid State, just a perfect combo of both in my eyes. I've always been unhappy with my amps in the past, including Ampeg, Hartke, Ashdown and Fender. Never thought I would actually ever find an amp that I liked.
 
I know what you say, I was very happy with my tubepath. Sweetest amp in the world!
 
my quad - best amp I've ever used. electrical whizz told me that "it's built like a tank."
parts are available for repairs not that you will ever need them?
the sound is whatever you want loads of frequency adjustment and loads of power,
I use mine with a 15 inch 8 ohm eminence and it rocks the house! add 2x8 inch trace elliots
250 watt 8ohms and you can you unleash the beast!

What is your source for repair parts? I had a Quad VI that needed some parts (switches) that my local amp shop couldn't find and that Warwick said were no longer available. I got rid of it because there's no point owning an unrepairable, broken amp.
 
hi chris, well it's of no use to you in Nashville but I use (phil) PMTat Birmingham U.K.
however any good audio electrician could find suitable substitute parts....sometimes
better! I have had amps in the past that were old/rare/obsolete they always find something
to get them up and running again.......I am suprized in the USA there is nobody capable?
 
Someone in the country, maybe :D But the places I tried could not. It was not super important as I already had an X-Treme 1000w amp, and this was just to be a spare (and was given to me for free), but still it's not really very old and I was surprised as to the lack of available parts. Next time I will just ship to PMTat!! :) :) :)
