Warwick obp3 wiring problems...

Hey guys! I've always had an eye on the forums but have never posted! I'll get around to filling out my profile details a bit later :d
I've decided to keep the mec pickups but am having trouble figuring out how to wire up the preamp to the mec push/pull vol blend pot.
Anybody attempted this or happen to have a wiring diagram?

any help would be appreciated!!!

I JUST went through this literally days ago. Had one installed in my 00 SSII and the shop couldn't figure out how to wire it in order to retain push-pull active/passive.

The good news is we have a Warwick and OBP-3 expert here. Send a PM to WickInSeattle here, or on Talkbass.com he is spfairchild.

I sent him a PM there and he sent me info that I gave to my tech who was then able to wire it correctly.

Long story short there are two different volume/blend pots MEC used over the years. One with a PCB on it and one without. That will determine how to wire it.

Anyway, Sean can tell you what you need to know.



In the mean time, here is what he told me, based on this picture of my pot I sent him:

Ah, ok! Well, it looks like this is the pre-PCB board version. This is good, because it's easier to see what connects to where! The 6 terminals closest to the top of the pot, at least in its orientation in this picture, make up a normal DPDT switch, which is used for bypassing the preamp! You can tell your tech to just treat those terminals as a DPDT switch, since that's what it is, and to wire in the switch as shown in the diagram on the aguilar site, here:

That's all there really is to it. Those MEC pots are weird, and he probably just didn't realize that the last module they tack on to that pot is a switch, with the exact same pin layout as a DPDT (double pole double throw) toggle switch. Instead of a toggle, it's a pull-pot, but it engages the switch in the exact same way a toggle would. I hope this helps!
