Warwick Buzzard -- Should I buy?

Hello all - New guy here - ran across a Warwick Buzzard 4-string bass today at a pawn shop. Couldn't tell any other model # on it but believe it had a serial # on the back of the headstock. Until today, I never even had heard of Warwick, but checking prices, it seems these are fairly high end guitars. This one was priced $300 and I since I don't have $300to lose right now, I was hoping someone here could let me know if that's a good price. If so, I'll probably pick it up tomorrow provided it's still there. Also would be willing to part with it here for a reasonable offer rather than that auction place.

A Warwick Buzzard for $300.00? Are You sure it wasnt $3000.00?
 
For that price, any Warwick in good condition is a killer bargain, even the cheapest models. Not to mention the Buzzard which is a more "special" and unusual model. If the price is 300$ i would be concerned that it is stolen or something like that. But if it's legit, get it without any second thoughts.

Max - Look at the pictures on Warwick Basses Amps & Rock&Roll
The headstock used to be bigger on earlier models, also some of the don't have the "3D grip" on the lower horn.

If the bass - Looks like in the pictures
Has an arched body
Has a neck made by dark woods
Looks and feels like a German Made bass, not like a Chinese crap,

Then it is safe to buy it right away with 300$
 
I agree with what everybody else said. Check the serial number, make sure its a legit Warwick first. I'm not sure exactly how you would check if its stolen but be creative for that. If it is $300 just get it before I do!
 
where do you live maxbarnes? So I can drive to your area and find that pawnshop and scoop up that buzzard, resell it for $$$$$$ and buy a Streamer stage 1 or Infinity NT
 
I'll make you a deal - buy it for $300, and sell it to me for $400.
 
May I remind everyone that I purchased my Warwick Vampyre LTD for $199.97 at Guitar Center in Hallandale, Florida. This Buzzard, which is probably a BO, could be this sort of deal.

Although I'm surprised, that knowing they had Woody himself in front of them, they did not give him the bass AND 1200$. That'd have been the best deal in the world for the shop, IMO.
 
Basically, the previous owner installed a washer above the volume pot but under the instrument's top so that he could pull out the volume pot (i.e. bypass the preamp) and re-attach the knobs so that the preamp was always bypassed.

The people thought the preamp was busted, and judging by the... prices of MEC preamps, they thought it was better to let it go for cheap than to fix it. I guess the preamp scared a lot of people away, because it dropped that low.

I took it into the shop to see what was up, and they found the washer, charging me $15 for their efforts ;)

I believe at one point $1.50 to $1.75 was equal to 1 Euro. I know the Euro is still more valuable than the American Dollar, though.
