Hi, I'm new, and need help figuring out what to buy my 16yo son.

He plays a Warwick Rockbass Corvette 5 string, and has been using an old borrowed amp, but the amp owner needs his amp back. So we're on the hunt for new gear.

I am confused - I have found a WA-300 head and WCA-410 cab , brand new, for $796 Aus. This seems really cheap compared to other brands with similar features.

My son loves Warwick, and I'm hoping this is a good set up for a kid starting out with his prog/thrash metal playing....

Has anyone got this gear, can they recommend it etc? Our dollars are very limited. Please note, I am more inclined to discuss the technicalities of horses than musical equipment, so if you can keep the tech talk siimple, that'd be brilliant!

Cheers. jw

Yeah thats a great combo. Great sound and powerful. Should keep him happy for a long time. The cab's heavyish and bulky but he's young. Probably wont bother him ;)

The amp wont give it's full output with that one cab alone (that cab is an 8-ohm cab. Without going into tech talk, he can use two 8-ohm cabs or a single 4-ohm cab if he wants to get the full power output), but it will give more than enough for most situations. Getting that cab means he has the option to get a second 8-ohm cab at some point if he wants another in the future.

Thanks! I think I should have paid more attention in Science 35 years ago....time to gogle 'ohms'..

Welcome to the forum, sir, and thanks for asking :-)

Both of them are more in the 'consumer' area, but the value for the money is very good. Your son will be very happy, this rig will deliver a fat, clean, powerful sound.

Be sure you chose the 4 ohms cabinet however!
The 8 ohm version of the cabinet is good if you plan of using two of them. But if you use only one, chose 4 ohms, otherwise the amp will deliver less power to the cbinet, about 200 instead of 300W
