Vintage thumb nt/status hybrid coming to me!

Got this bass in a trade and just wanted to know if anyone knows any background or history on it. Its an 87 thumb with status s2 pickups and electronics.
 
That bass looks familiar! If you do some searching on the forum here you'll find a few threads about it. But I don't think you'll learn anything new - I don't think anyone knows much about the history of this bass! :lol:
 
I think I saw this on eBay, advertised as a Corvette... nearly had a heartattack.
 
i've seen this bass a couple of times on this forum already. each time there was a other member the owner of this bass and one of the first was wolfman. so much i remember was the finish and the pickups not made by warwick except the leds (sims led that time probably) which doesn't work anymore.
 
I bet in three years, this old relic will be in atleast 3 more hands... lol! :d
 
Hope I love it! I want to strip the paint and refinish it.
 
it looks like it has an itch, you should give it a good scratch with some sandpaper and get that silly seafoam off it and let the bubinga shine once more.
 
beautiful! finish is definately not factory and you can see the beautiful bulbinga where the paint has been scratched off. Im just afraid of routing damage or something underneat the finish. theres also white out marks where the leds are since the leds are non functional. Whats the best way to take off white out off wood?

Loads and loads and loads of elbow grease! LOL

If the bass wasn't sealed properly prior to painting then you'll be looking at a lot of work to get it down to the natural finish with no clogged pores... however, it'll be worth it. You are right to be concerned about routing under the paint as the original pup would have been at an angle; it could be that the rout for the new pups (which are wider) could have covered where the original Jazz sized pup was. I'd whip the pups out and see what is evidenced in the routs at the moment.
 
I'd really love to strip down the paint job as I think the paint is just ugly!

You strip that finish..You might find 300 control pot holes . Most factory finishes back then had a Warwick "The Sound of Wood" sticker under the finish..Tho this might be something that came out of the tech shed @ Warwick
