VERY HOT DI

hi guys,

just wondering if any of you have noticed how hot the output is from the DI on warwick amps, i have had problems with both my Pro Tube IX and Pro Fet 3.2 cliping the inputs on various mixing desks. Is there any way of adjusting the output level?

By lowering the input gain of your amp. In general, if you set your input gain for a clean sound, you will not clip the mixing desk

Stupid question, but what if you want grit in your sound? That the sound guy problem?

That is an option just for Tubepath. If you set the gain to have a little grit in your sound, it is still ok for the mixing console.

... same thing happens with the DI from my Markbass combo and even my EBS Microbass (if DI'd post eq)... but not my Ashdown!

I just get the grit from backline... the sound guy said "I think there's something wrong with your amp, it seems to be distorting" (should I be worried?) :shock:

just tested my amp with my yamaha desk and even with the input nowhere near clipping the signal is too high for the input on my desk (even with the gain on the desk at the minimum setting the clip led is flashing)

I played a gig a few months ago with a quite famous touring band, and it was even clipping there sound guys very expensive desk. I ended up having to use a di box (this wasnt ideal as i use the channel switching in my pro tube quite a bit for different sounds) .

I dunno mate, I tell you I donlt have a problem with that. However, maybe we should make a -10 dB pad for output.

Live Sound consoles all have pads in them, the sound engineer should be able to make up for it if you're coming out too loud and should press that -10 or -20 pad on his preamp.

yeah. i've noticed that. Its when the sound guy doesnt have the greatest quality desk that i usually have problems.

Do you think it would be easy to make a little box with pad buttons on it to go between the amp and desk?

mite warm up my soldering iron and pay a visit to maplin at the weekend!

Use a mic and then you actually get closer to the sound you have eq'd your amp to. Or at least that's what I want to do.

The DI on my X-TREME has never given me a good sound. I tried Ground Lift and I still get a nasty tone.

Very few amps, hi-quality or not, has a good, internal DI. The only two I`ve been into that`s give me a great signal, has been an Ashdown MAG 600 and an old Mesa Boogie.

NOOOOO!! Please!!!! Better plug your bass directly in the mixing console than using a B device. They are soooo dirty! I own a couple of them, never use them...

i'll second that however, they are awesome for learning to do stuff with, my B devices tough me how to use a mixer/effects/record/and generally sound tech because i wasn't afraid to pretty much experiment and destroy them but yes for professional things i'd get a better brand, as even if B devices sound ok they only last the warranty period in my experiance...

I have also had a few worries with high output level from my tubepath, but it usually is when either the mixing desk is a cheapie & or the brain surgeon sound guy doesnt know how to use a pad.

I find if I turn my pre level down on the front of my amp to help the situation, my tone from the amp suffers..

The last thing I want to do is upset the know it all sound guy.... :roll:

Also with the tubepath DI, they dont like Phantom power also.
